It is not as cheap as Bulgaria, but outside
July and August it can still claim to be
20% cheaper than eurozone resorts.
Plenty of no-frills airlines fly to Croatia,
mainly to Dubrovnik, Split and Pula.
Dubrovnik can be described as a resort, as
there are plenty of hotels outside the old city,
around Lapad Bay and Babin Kuk peninsula.
It also has some boutique hotels in
and around the old city, and nearby are
sophisticated hotels such as Libertas Rixos,
which is five-star yet family-friendly.
Dubrovnik’s heart is the walled city, full
of restaurants and bars, churches, palaces,
attractive squares and cobbled streets. But it
can become extremely crowded, especially
when cruise ships are visiting.
The Dubrovnik Riviera islands – including
Korcula, Kolocep, Lopud and Mljet – offer a
real “away from it all” feel. Close by on the
mainland are two resorts long popular with
the British, Cavtat and Mlini.
The Makarska Riviera in central Dalmatia
is also very beautiful but often overlooked,
