The upmarket island of Brac in Croatia boasts a stunning coastline
Nessebur, with cobbled streets, traditional architecture
and great fish restaurants. Nessebur has its own beach
hotels across a causeway from the old town, and is
easily reached from Sunny Beach.
Golden Sands, on the northern stretch of the Black
Sea, is also a large resort. It is more family-orientated
than Sunny Beach and also suitable for older people.
Near the historic city of Varna, Golden Sands
lives up to its name. It also has a long promenade,
numerous sports facilities including a Padi diving
centre and windsurfing. The resort is backed by pine
woods and boasts mineral springs.
Smaller resorts include Sozopol, a beautiful old
seaside town known for its artists and narrow cobbled
streets; Albena, with a four-mile sandy,
Blue Flag beach; the old town of
Pomorie, on a rocky peninsula; and
Elenite, a holiday village seven miles
from Sunny Beach with two and
three-storey villas.
Sample: Balkan Holidays offers seven
nights’ all-inclusive at Hotel Pomorie on
August 3 from £500, with Gatwick flights.
