CI: The fast and dynamic development of games


technology has seen manufacturers of electronic gaming devices make use of game designers on the open market. Would Merkur Gaming make use of third parties for games design and content? CHARLES HITEN: “Different markets require


different solutions but, as an overall position statement, Merkur Gaming will use every possible resource, whether in-house or external, to innovate and produce the absolute best games for individual markets. You can expect to see some very positive developments in terms of our game development; particularly in relation to our aspirations to become a serious player in North America.”


CI: Finally, how does the Brazil landscape

Certainly, Miami is a big attraction for Latin American visitors and we look forward to meeting cruise line operators, local gaming operators and friends from all across the Americas. Merkur Gaming was the first Tier One Company to fully commit to participation in Juegos Miami as a major exhibitor and we certainly hope for an excellent event but, like everyone, we will only be able to judge the level of success at the conclusion of this first edition.”


CI: Certainly Merkur Gaming also will also


feature in other regional events to reinforce its presence in Latin America. However, with your responsibilities for the Americas, would the company also venture into the U.S., say tribal gaming?


CHARLES HITEN: “Merkur Gaming has already made several statements outlining our plans to enter North American markets. The process of preparing for that market entry is ongoing and currently accelerating. Certainly, by the time of G2E in Las Vegas, our strategy and specific plans will be firmly in place and we will be making it very clear what we will have to offer and how we will be doing it. It is well known that the intense period of merger and acquisition activity that has taken place in America over recent times has created a climate of opportunity. That is shown by the willingness of US operators to be ready to welcome new vendor companies and to explore the new gaming

fully legal gaming in Brazil are, without doubt, an exciting prospect. But they remain, for the time being, simply a prospect. If, and hopefully when, the proposed enabling legislation receives approval Merkur Gaming will be ready to make available our ‘products that deliver’ to what would then be a hugely attractive new market.”
