Don’t get in hot water – Choose your
boiling water tap wisely says Zip M
ore and more instant boiling water taps are entering the marketplace, so much so that there may be confusion over how to choose one over the other. Russell Owens, head of marketing and residential at leading water delivery company, Zip Water, says it’s vital that specifiers, designers and architects understand the differences between the products so they can recommend the best one for their clients’ needs.
“Price points vary quite dramatically on instant boiling water taps, so it’s important to be clear on what one product offers over the other, in terms of functionality, quality, service support and warrantees. Essentially, why spend a bit extra!
Fully functional
“When looking at specifying an instant boiling water tap, it’s important to find out what the client’s priority is. Is energy efficiency important? Do they want a child-friendly product? Do they want filtration? Do they just want instant boiling water or are they interested in chilled and sparkling water as well? How important is design of the tap itself? “In terms of energy efficiency, you don’t want to see your water and energy bills suddenly increase, so it’s worth finding out whether the product has any energy saving features. For example, the Zip HydroTap features advanced energy saving technology as well as an air-cooled ventilation system, meaning water is not wasted. “So what about safety? An instant tap is a great product for busy families, but ensuring it is safe for smaller hands is a must. Our HydroTap product is cool to touch even after dispensing boiling water, and also features a safety button and a boiling isolation mode, meaning boiling water can’t be accessed by children.
“Filtration is easily overlooked. Many of us – especially those in hard water areas – are used to using filter jugs to reduce limescale. However, this level of filtration is minimal. We use market leading 0.2 micron filtration as part of our HydroTap, meaning particles as small as 1/5000th of a

millimetre are filtered out. The difference in taste is astonishing, and if your client is looking for tap that offers filtered chilled as well as boiling water, this is an important factor.
“For clients who enjoy their water with a bit more fizz, and want the ultimate instant water tap, our HydroTap offers filtered sparkling water as well as chilled and boiling. Perfect for entertaining and ensuring smaller members of the family have a healthier choice of drinks, the sparkling water option really does ensure your client’s product has the ‘wow’ factor!
Purchase protection
“The saying ‘buy cheap, buy twice’ applies to boiling taps as it does to most consumables. Most of us wouldn’t buy the cheapest washing machine or vacuum cleaner, knowing there is the likelihood that it won’t last as long as the more expensive, better known brands.
“Here at Zip, we are pioneers of quality, both in terms of manufacturing standards but also service and support. For example, our HydroTap G4 range not only offers instant, filtered boiling, chilled and sparkling water, but is also covered by a comprehensive full parts and labour warranty for 36 months (excludes Miniboil). A further 24 months boiling tank warranty is included. This ensures peace of mind for customers, who want to know that their
product is protected. We even offer a ‘Hydrocare package’ which conveniently means we take care of yearly filter replacements and product maintenance, without your customers having to worry.
Looks good, does good
“The aesthetics of the tap itself are also likely to be an important consideration. Clients want kitchen products that seamlessly fit in with their kitchen interior, and with the elegant Arc, contemporary Cube and minimalist Elite – as well as four finishes – to choose from, our HydroTap design range has been developed to offer more choice to customers. “Making sure you buy from a trusted name is the single most important thing you can do to protect your investment. However good the product appears to be, a company without experience and expertise is unlikely to offer much help if something goes wrong. “We are all about the delivery of water – no matter what the requirement, we have the product – and experience – to meet those needs.” Visit Zip Water at KBB, stand 17T115.
