The German National Tourist Office (GNTO) training programme has seen 400 agents become ‘Germany experts’ in the first two months since its launch.
The programme comprises five modules including geography, customs and traditions, and Christmas markets. Agents who complete it can log back in to use the modules as sales aids. Agents who pass all modules by
March 31 are entered into a draw to win one of two trips for two
people to Leipzig, staying at the four-star Pentahotel, along with a Leipzig Card giving free travel in the city and free entry or discounts on activities and attractions. Agents from Fred Holidays,
Travelbound and Shearings Coach Holidays have all taken part. The UK sales manager at Fred,
Lawrence Peachey, said: “Even as a Germany specialist I found the online training platform extremely useful. It helps to bring together all those need-to-know points to help you promote Germany as the very diverse and affordable holiday destination it is.” Klaus Lohmann, director of the GNTO for the UK and Ireland,
said: “We’re delighted with the initial response. “Our aim is to provide as much support as we can, to help travel professionals benefit from the opportunities available through the increased interest in destination Deutschland.” The GNTO is planning a fam trip
to the North Rhine-Westphalia region this year and interested agents are invited to contact sales manager Charles Wilson at
charles.wilson@germany.travel. The training programme will be
showcased at the Germany Travel Show on February 11 at the Royal
LEIPZIG: Prize draw destination
Horticultural Halls in London.
