Top Takeaway: Overall, Great Britain has flexible entry into the educational system and an exam process based on hours of teaching and progress reports. Tese teaching hours are mostly done at indoor centers and dry slopes. – Scott Anfang, AASI Snowboard Team

HUNGARY

Communication Technology Tis workshop presented the use of a one-way communication device between the teacher (microphone) and the students (earpieces), which offers a real-time/constant ability to talk to students while skiing/riding. Te Hungarians presented three key benefits of this approach: Safety: Communicate directions to keep the student from getting lost; warn of changing conditions or terrain variables. Increase ski/ride time: Less time is spent standing while giving information and feedback. Effective real-time feedback: Te belief is that feedback

given while performing is more effective than that given after the performance.

Top Takeaway: While interesting, there are significant drawbacks to this approach, including the fact that safety can be negatively affected as the student is distracted by the “voice in their head.” I would see this being more effective in a trainer/teacher application. If an instructor were to

wear the microphone while teaching an actual class, and the trainer were to wear the earpiece, the trainer could then offer feedback on every aspect of communication, class handling, technical information, and inter-personal communication. – Rob Sogard, PSIA Alpine Team Coach

Whispering Technology Hungary is successfully using the Whisper System – radio communication between the instructor/coach and student. Tey have also built a freestyle instruction system based on the needs of students.

Top Takeaways: Having someone in my ear to correct or talk me through things was a unique experience. – David Oliver, PSIA Alpine Team, Freestyle Specialist
