The U.S. delegation at Interski 2015 included PSIA-AASI Team members, instructors, and staff eager to represent the essence of American snowsports instruction. INTERSKI 2015: THE BIG PICTURE

HOW PSIA-AASI’S LEARNING CONNECTION BENEFITS YOU, YOUR STUDENTS, AND – ESPECIALLY – THE FUTURE OF SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING By Peter Kray; Photos by Scott Markewitz

SIA-AASI Alpine Team member Michael Rogan proclaimed Interski 2015, “Te greatest ever,” both for U.S. instruction and the future of skiing

One reason he – as well as the entire PSIA-AASI Team – are so excited about how the event in Ushuaia, Argentina, went is that team members worked so well together to provide an incredibly cohesive message that will help you and your fellow instructors teach better lessons, and benefit professional development in the years to come. “It is easy to say that this was the best Interski I have been a part of,” said Rogan (who, as a member of the Alpine Team since 1996, has attended four Interskis). “Specifically, because there was a very clear message that was very well received, which I think will make for great content for our membership. It was a pleasure to be at the bottom of the hill and hear so many positive comments about our workshops and lectures. Te world noticed how hard everyone worked!”

and snowboarding. Tis is coming from an instructor who was on crutches due to a knee injury before the event, then had to have a root canal in Ushuaia during the event.

PSIA-AASI BEGINS A NEW ERA WITH THE LEARNING CONNECTION As much a culminating event as it is a kickoff point for the future, the first Interski ever held in South America provided a clear deadline for formalizing instructional concepts and demonstrations, while also serving as a venue to test and challenge those concepts. It also offered new alternatives for how instructors interact with their students and present information. “As they say way down in Ushuaia, ‘It’s the end of the world and beginning of everything,’” said PSIA-AASI Director of Education Dave Schuiling. “I believe that we are currently at the beginning of something really special; a new era, outlook, and direction for the association. It was one incredible team effort for all of PSIA-AASI – from the membership, the Team, and all of our excellent sponsors. By working so well together, we were able to present a unified message that resonated across disciplines, and which will benefit everyone by focusing on three distinct skills sets that are essential to any effective ski or snowboard lesson.” Te core of that message is Te Learning Connection, a developmental framework with an overall focus on each
