Almost 30 years after meeting on an educational to Yugoslavia, two agents were reunited on a fam trip to Majorca. Karen Jones (née Shaw), sales development executive at
Fred Olsen Travel in Ipswich, and Jane Savage (née Mortlock), senior sales consultant at The Co-operative Travel in March, Cambridgeshire, “hit it off immediately” when they met on a Yugotours fam trip to the Istrian Riviera in 1983. The pair stayed in contact for a few years and Savage even
attended Jones’ wedding in 1989. But they eventually lost touch. However, when scanning the list of attendees for this
month’s Villas4you fam to Majorca, Savage spotted Jones’ name. “It was wonderful to meet Karen again – it seemed only yesterday that we first met,” she said. The pair hopes the rest of the group will get in touch.

Royal increases focus on Asia with first educational

Royal Caribbean International is this week hosting its first Asian fam trip as it looks to drive awareness of its operations in the Far East.
The line is hosting a VIP trip for
key partners, visiting Beijing and Shanghai for pre and post-cruise activities, and a sailing to South Korea and Japan onQuantum of the Seas, which is now based in China, following a stint in the US. Steve Williams, the line’s head of sales, said it had become increasingly important to highlight the variety of long-haul destinations on offer. “We have really grown in the Chinese market, and that market is becoming increasingly more important to us, and in the cruise sector as a whole,” he said. “For us at Royal, this is reflected in the fact that we have sent our newest and best ships to sail in Asia.” Aside from Quantum, the line

Former Holiday Extras insurance ambassador Andrea Clayton-Norris has joined travel insurance firm Citybond Suretravel as director of sales. Clayton-Norris left Holiday Extras in July after 21 years with the business.

Travel and tourism in Europe generates more income than automotive manufacturing, chemical manufacturing, banking, agriculture or mining, new research reveals. Travel and tourism made a contribution of €1.8 trillion in 2014, according to the study by the World Travel & Tourism Council.
