CHEVAL BLANC SPA, NOONU ATOLL, MALDIVES

IN ASSOCIATION WITH

A trip to Cheval Blanc shouldn’t be taken lightly. First you need a new wardrobe: the place is swarming with ultra-chic French fashionistas. Then, you’ll need a big wallet: the villas are eye-wateringly expensive. But most of all, you’ll need time, because Cheval Blanc is vast, consisting of four isles encircled by white sand, one of which is devoted to the spa (pictured). Reached via a traditional dhoni, the main entrance is an emporium of whitewashed wood, bleached shells and natural woven latticework. As well as six treatment villas, the island has a Leonor Greyl hair spa, a barber shop, a pool, a restaurant, hammams and a yoga pavilion. You could easily lose a whole day here – or a week. I had only an afternoon but what I saw, I liked – a lot. First, the spa restaurant menu is one of the most nutritious and polished I’ve seen in a long time. Second, there are lovely big knotted-rope hammocks along the shoreline, so you can nod off to the gentle lap of waves after your treatment. Third, it’s the first and only spa I know that has a full quota of make-up and styling equipment, so you can leave the spa looking better than when you arrived. Guerlain has curated a special treatment list especially for Cheval Blanc’s spa-goers,

many of which last two or three hours. MUST-HAVE TREATMENT: The Randheli Sun Ritual (90 mins, £190) is a gentle face and body treatment that prepares your skin for tanning and promises to prolong

a healthy glow. WOW FACTOR: As soon as guests check into their villas (butlers do this via iPads), therapists sail in to give jetlag-relieving treatments – a footbath,

reflexology and calf massage. Heaven. RANDHELI.CHEVALBLANC.COM

BEST IN MAURITIUS

Congratulations to the St Regis Mauritius, my favourite hotel on the island, for being named the country’s best spa at the World Travel Awards. Iridium, the hotel’s supremely sexy spa, is a three-storey work of art and one of the glossiest I’ve seen in the Indian Ocean. News just in from spa manager Michaella Mamode is that she’ll be introducing French product line Thémaé in the near future, as well as continuing with its

exclusive line of Valmont facials. Très bien! STREGISMAURITIUS.COM
