ASPIRE DIGITAL SUMMIT
CRUISE LINE SHOWCASES VIDEO HEADSET TOOL TO 200 SUMMIT ATTENDEES. BY RUPERT MURRAY
AZAMARA UNVEILS VIRTUAL ‘FIRST’
Azamara Club Cruises unveiled its move into the virtual-reality world at the Aspire Digital Summit. The line demonstrated Azamara 3DI, its 360-degree virtual reality experience, on stage and invited the 200-strong audience to try the Oculus Rift technology. It is the first cruise line to use the video technology. The headsets enable users to take a virtual tour of its ships or, if they are feeling more adventurous, experience virtually a zipline ride in a Costa Rican rainforest, a moonlit carriage ride in Cartagena, Colombia, or a sailing through the Panama Canal.
Following the launch, the line took the tech on a tour of trade partners up and down the country, visiting agents from Barrhead Travel and Trailfinders in Scotland to Bath Travel in Bournemouth and across to Jersey and Northern Ireland. Guests who attended the Azamara Quest UK ship visits this summer also had the chance to enjoy the sensory journey, as did attendees at the Fred Olsen Travel Group Conference, the Advantage Cruise Conference and the Clia Luxury Cruise Expo. Richard Twynam, Azamara Club Cruises’ managing director for the UK and Ireland, said: “We are thrilled to be the first cruise line to bring Oculus Rift technology to demonstrate the Azamara difference to loyal and prospective agent partners, and we hope that this travel experience will inspire future holidays with us.”

Azamara partnered with digital marketing agency Verb Interactive and Total Cinema 360 to produce the Azamara 3DI virtual-reality video series, and Verb founder Andy Maclellan joined Twyman on stage to talk about this technology and his work with Azamara.
