JOURNEYS TO THE EAST’S VIETNAM FOCUS XMAS LAUNCH FOR BURMA RIVER CRUISER
Burma’s latest river cruiser, The Strand Cruise, sets off on its inaugural journey between Bagan and Mandalay this Christmas. On December 22 and 29, the boat will set off with 54 guests, who will enjoy experiences such as a hot-air balloon ride over the ancient temples in Bagan and an evening visit to the Dandaree sound and light show. Regular three- and four-night journeys will start on January 4, taking in less-visited villages and landmarks for what is described as a more genuine interaction with local communities. The vessel, which is an extension of the Strand Hotel in Yangon, has been designed to host sociable cruises with long tables in the restaurant to facilitate communal dining. Prices for January to March sailings have been cut by 20%, while passengers booking one of the two Strand suites will receive extras including a one-hour spa
treatment and private transfers to the airport.

NEW VILLAS FOR VIRGIN GORDA RESORT MANTIS ADDS DAY TRIP IN ANTARCTICA
The Mantis Collection has created a one-day Antarctica excursion. The Great Day involves a five- hour flight from Cape Town to Novo Runway to meet polar guides. Guests will trek over 100m cliffs, meet nesting adélie penguins and visit ice grottoes. The

Oil Nut Bay, on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, has added two rental villas. Reef House, in the hills above the marina, features three detached bedroom pods and an infinity pool with tiki huts overlooking the ocean. Prices start at £1,400 a night. The other new villa, Brise de Mer, is on the north side
of Oil Nut Bay and is decorated in a Moroccan style.

Journeys To The East has launched a series of bespoke tours showcasing Vietnam. The escorted Luxorient tours range from five to 21 days. A culinary tour visits Hanoi and Ha Long Bay, while the Signature Tour takes in Hanoi, Ha Long Bay by seaplane, ancient villages in the mountains of Quan Ba, Hue, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City. Add-ons include Mekong cruises. The company’s chairwoman, Nguyen Viet Loan Foster, who has accompanied Hilary Clinton and Jacques
Chirac during visits to Vietnam, will lead the tours.
