unloading capabilities, after installing indoor and outdoor mobile ramp solutions designed and manufactured by Thorworld Industries. Following a change in logistics strategy, the site began storing all raw materials for manufacturing on-site. Given the consequent need for increased deliveries, the operation needed to boost capabilities for manoeuvring deliveries out of solid ship containers, as well as from lorries featuring standard curtain siders. As a result, the customer turned to ADI Ireland, a specialist provider of operations and maintenance solutions, to devise an appropriate mechanism to support this demand. “The pace of delivery at the plant is high, with several trucks often making deliveries within quick succession, or often simultaneously. This meant the right loading bay solution would have to enable solid containers to be offloaded in a safe and timely manner, within a turnaround period to facilitate the next delivery efficiently, explains Stephen O’Hanlon of ADI Ireland.

multi-national confectionery manufacturing facility in Dublin has improved its on-site loading and
nergy intensive businesses like cold storage, fully understand that powered mobile pallet racking increases capacity by 80%
compared with conventional racking on the same footprint, whilst retaining 100% selectivity. With current cost and environmental pressures, organisations in the ambient sector like The HSE Laboratory, Augusta Westland, Adelphi Packaging and MacDermid Autotype have successfully adopted the system. Following a fire, Searle (Fareham) opted for powered mobile racking from WSL doubling the pallet capacity of the stores. Procurement Manager, Fabian Gillgower said, “The system is user friendly and very safe – our team is over the moon with it. LED lighting is wired into the control panel, so only the open aisle is illuminated. I would happily recommend WSL, they took ownership of the project and worked well with Searle from concept to commissioning and staff training.”

Kasto automated warehouse forms core of new distribution centre
P
ipe Center has opened a new distribution centre in Measham, Derbyshire, the newest and most technologically advanced operation in the supply chain of parent company, Wolseley UK. The 142,000 sq ft facility has given Pipe Center the ability to provide next-day delivery across its entire network. A bespoke, 3,332- location KASTOunicompact 4.0 automated warehouse forms the heart of the operation. The cassette-type tube storage system provides dynamic goods-to-man presentation for efficient picking, which reduces the amount of manual handling required. Advanced, multi-level warehouses for storing and retrieving long stock, sheet and other material efficiently, and production of the world's most extensive range of sawing machines for cutting the material accurately, are the two specialisms of KASTO. The UK subsidiary in Milton Keynes will be presenting the latest advances in both areas at its Open House on 9th and 10th September 2015.

2013/14 to 2014/15 to over €466 million, with profit (EBIT) of €21m. This follows a year of modest growth, from €380m in 2012/13 to €384m in 2013/14. KNAPP set itself the target in 2013 of doubling turnover by 2020. At its current growth rate, the company will not be far away from that ambitious target. Europe remained the strongest sales region for KNAPP, with a turnover share of almost 75%. The UK market also performed very well. Craig Rollason, Managing Director of KNAPP UK said: "These extremely positive results reflect both the long-term growth strategy of the group and the highly successful partnerships developed with key clients over the last decade.” KNAPP’s investment in R&D had resulted in innovative system solutions for the core business areas of pharma, fashion, food and retail.
