X-RAY SYSTEM DETECTS faulty tubing for automotive sector

A manufacturer of rubber tubing and sealing section for the automotive industry has installed an x-ray system from Anritsu that detects a blockage with 100% success rate

section of rubber can be discarded thus preventing the faulty section from entering the windscreen washer manufacturing process. Flexi-Cell chose Anritsu to supply the X-ray system after approaching a number of companies with the challenge. John English says the service from Anritsu has been second to none. ‘‘First I contacted each company to see

which ones were prepared to run trials with us and Anritsu was the only company to offer that. It took them less than a day to get the X-ray set up on the line. Since then we’ve had no complaints at all from customers as the X-ray detects all faulty tubing. We are very happy with Anritsu and would certainly recommend them.’’ This 100% success rate is indicative of

nritsu Industrial Solutions has made its first move into the automotive

industry. Better known for supplying the food industry with X-ray and metal detection systems, the company has successfully risen to the challenge of solving a specific problem surrounding windscreen washers. Based in Cheshire, Flexi-Cell UK

manufactures rubber tubing and sealing sections for a car parts manufacturer supplying windscreen washers which are fitted in Jaguars, BMWs and Volvos. Unknown to the company at the time there were sometimes blockages in the tubing produced causing problems with the flow of fluid through to the windscreen washer.

“Very occasionally you can get material

down the centre of the tubing which stops it from working in the end application,” explains projects manager John English. “We couldn’t find a way round it in-house and needed a solution.”

X-RAY SYSTEM DETECTS BLOCKAGE Anritsu solved the problem by devising an X-ray system that integrates into the manufacturing process line. The rubber tubing is extruded in continuous lengths with more than 100,000 metres going into one manufacturing slot. If the X-ray system detects a blockage in the tubing it activates an alarm and a printer. The printer sprays yellow paint on the tubing where the blockage is so that

Anritsu’s ‘can-do’ attitude and flexibility in adapting to the needs of any industry. Since the installation of the X-ray system, Flexi-Cell has had no further issues with blockages in the pipes. Increased orders for Anritsu products have seen the company boost its UK presence and open a new sales and service office in Bromsgrove to support its growing UK and European customer base. Customers can visit the site for live product demonstrations, training and product testing. To prove how confident the company is in its products Anritsu is pleased to offer a free production line trial.

SCALABLE, INTEGRATED SYSTEM IMPROVES MAINTENANCE EFFICIENCY

Yokogawa Electric Corporation has released the SensTation pH/ORP measurement system, a scalable and integrated solution that combines the capabilities of the SENCOM pH/ORP sensors and SMARTDAC+ data acquisition and control system. This eliminates the need for a pH/ORP transmitter and allows users the choice of any of the paperless recorders in the SMARTDAC+ series, each of which can connect to up to 16 sensors. In addition to supporting a wide range of analytical and data control applications this solution improves maintenance efficiency. The SensTation system eliminates the need for a transmitter and has a

comparatively simple configuration yet combines the powerful features of Yokogawa's SENCOM sensors and SMARTDAC+ recorders. Using a SMARTDAC+ recorder and the SPS24 SENCOM PC software, SensTation

users are able to remotely monitor sensor and diagnostic data in real time from a PC, smartphone or tablet device. They can analyse current and historical data and receive automatically generated e-mail messages when a device error has occurred or maintenance is required. Users have the option of calibrating their SENCOM sensors offline in a laboratory or workshop where working conditions are optimal. SMARTDAC+ recorders have a touch panel user interface similar to that found in the latest tablets and smartphones so users will find the navigation familiar, intuitive and easy.
