ylde CNC Specialists has set the platform to develop its precision turning and milling

CB Piezotronics, a world leader in vibration, acoustic, pressure, force/torque sensors has announced a new crystal technology being used in high temperature applications called UHT-12™. Accelerometers designed with UHT-12™ make measurements with better accuracy and lower noise over large temperature profiles. "This new development solves the gas turbine manufacturers’ problems with ceramic based sensors known as pyroelectric noise," said PCB. "The material also has the ability to operate in shear mode,

isolating the

accelerometer from thermal influences and base strain errors." UHT-12™ technology allows accelerometers to be insensitive to temperature variations. This is ideal for applications such as test and monitoring vibration of gas turbine engines (both in-flight and in test cells), rocket motors and thruster assemblies, turbocharger and exhaust system test and engine balancing.

ift Safe, materials handling equipment and mobile work lifters specialist, has lightened the load of Adept Power Solutions (APS) by supplying it with a bespoke lifter to move large industrial batteries. APS, of Andover, Hampshire, provides solutions for customers’ site issues, sales, and services for uninterruptable power supply (UPS) electronic devices for the power protection industry. The company is currently undertaking a contract to replace 42 tonnes of batteries and redesign two complete battery/UPS rooms for the London headquarters of a global banking organisation. “As soon as I saw the job, I knew I would want one of Lift Safe’s specially made lifters,” says Colin Smith, DC Battery Specialist at APS, who co-designed the site-specific lifter with Lift Safe and the project works on site. The battery rooms at the London location contains 738 batteries, each weighing 54kg, stored on five levels on six open racks up to 2.6 metres high.

Makita’s new slimline ‘brushless’ cordless angle grinders with constant speed control

M

akita introduces two updated cordless angle grinders to the market leading 18v Lithium-Ion tool range. The new Makita DGA454 115mm

4 ½” and DGA504 125mm 5”angle grinders are both powered by high torque brushless motors and feature an improved forced airflow system. This drives clean air from the base of the tool over the controller and through the motor body for motor performance and long-life reliability. Removable air intake gauze filters are now fitted for motor protection and simple off- machine cleaning. This improved ‘brushless’ motor performance is now married to an electronic constant speed control system that maintains the wheel speed for optimum operation, irrespective of the load being experienced by the wheel drive transmission. The high torque motor of the DGA545 and 504 grinders will therefore keep the grinding wheel in action where other grinders would stop.

Babcock Wanson provides flexible process heating for automotive manufacturer

B

abcock Wanson’s high efficiency Thermal Fluid Heaters have been installed at Gurit Automotive’s site in Newport, Isle of Wight, as part of a very close control heating and cooling system for its composite part production facility.

Gurit has been supplying leading

OEMs with carbon fibre based Class-A composite panels since 2007. The company’s strength is its understanding of composite materials, structural design and materials processing which provides the capability to formulate,

design, prototype and manufacture fully

assembled, primed and coloured exterior body panels. A flexible process heating and cooling solution that can be precisely controlled is vital to the manufacturing process.

Gurit selected a Babcock

Wanson Thermal Fluid System which is used in their multi mould production facility for composite panel production and hot roller heating for prepreg material production.
