“Intersections”
Tuesday & Wednesday, November 3 & 4 at 7:30 pm $25
What is broken about the criminal justice system?
Local theater artists Kelly Thomas, Jena Necrason, and Kim Jordan perform a new theater piece on criminal justice reform, based on real letters from inmates and personal experiences working with people who are incarcerated. Intersections asks important questions: What is broken about the criminal justice system? Why is this significant to our Vermont community? What are the possibilities for reform? In conjunction with this performance, the Flynn’s Amy E. Tarrant Gallery presents an exhibit of wood scrollwork by Jeremy Mackenzie, created while he was incarcerated in a Kentucky Prison, September 4 through November 28.

Brian McCarthy Nonet “The Better Angels of Our Nature”
Friday & Saturday, November 6 & 7 at 8 pm $25
“McCarthy plays and composes with palpable sensitivity...while he can certainly bring heat.” —Seven Days
In this nine-piece chamber jazz ensemble work (featuring six horn players), saxophonist Brian McCarthy explores popular songs of the American Civil War, and introduces original material based on figures and events of the era. The show is inspired by Abraham Lincoln’s appeal to “the better angels of our nature” in his first inaugural address, as he pleaded with our divided nation to avoid the looming specter of civil war.
