Saturday, September 12 at 8 pm $40/$32/$25

“Lisa Fischer is a stone cold knockout.” —Star Tribune

Lisa Fischer was prominently featured in the Oscar-winning 2013 documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom, the story of the backup singers behind some of the greatest musical legends of the 21st century. She’s backed up the Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, Sting, Dolly Parton, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, and Aretha Franklin to name just a few. Fischer became a solo star in 1991 with her debut album So Intense, which included the single that won the Grammy for Best Female R&B Performance, How Can I Ease the Pain. Fischer has “great range, often hitting high notes few of her counterparts can” (Washington Post), and visits the Flynn in

advance of her fall tour with the Rolling Stones. Presented in association with the Office of the Vice President for Human Resources, Diversity and Multicultural Affairs through the UVM President’s Initiative for Diversity.

and Dwight Yoakam

Thursday, September 17 at 7:30 pm $80/$65/$50

“Yoakam strides the divide between rock’s lust and country’s lament.” —Vanity Fair

Few entertainers have attained the iconic status of Dwight Yoakam. Whether singing about the twisted wreckage of romance, the broken dreams of this hard life, or burgeoning optimism, the Grammy Award-winner brings a knowing, glorious edge to his delivery and stands as a beacon of authenticity. Much has been written about the Kentucky-born, Ohio-raised Yoakam being too country for Nashville when he first started out, but the truth is his music has always been too unique, too ruggedly individualistic to fit neatly into any one box. He has taken his influences—Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Buck Owens—and filtered them into his own potent blend of country and rock that honors his musical predecessors and yet creates something beautifully new.
