“An unforgettable night of rapturous dancing, musical meditation, and kinship.” —NPR

Every January, New York hosts GlobalFest, one of the most exciting and celebrated world music events in the country. Started in 2003 to showcase groundbreaking sounds from around the world, GlobalFest hits the road this year with three stellar musicians. Emeline Michel is the reigning Queen of Haitian Song, a captivating performer, versatile vocalist and one of the premier Haitian songwriters of her generation. Jamaica Brushy One-String is a visionary Jamaican guitarist who coaxes a lively array of influences and sounds out of his one-stringed instrument. Casurina is one of the most sophisticated and respected groups of Rio de Janeiro’s samba and choro scene. The New York Times says “At GlobalFest, the whole world gets into the groove.”

Actors from the London Stage “A Midsummer

Night’s Dream” Thursday & Friday, February 25 & 26 at 8 pm $35

“You don’t need to be an expert in Shakespeare to appreciate this production.” —Charlotte Observer

One of the world’s oldest established Shakespearean companies, Actors from the London Stage, presents an intimate version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Co-founded by Patrick Stewart in 1975, the company draws actors from the Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal National Theatre of Great Britain, and the Globe Theatre, and sends them to universities for week-long residences, capped by public performances. Each of the company’s five virtuoso actors play multiple roles on a minimal set—it’s about language, Shakespeare, and acting.
