“Companhia Urbana de Dança is so wonderful that it seems miraculous.” —New York Times
Featuring eight incredible dancers from Rio de Janerio, Companhia Urbana de Dança mixes hip-hop, samba, capoeira, and contemporary in a boldly imaginative show. Called “almost shocking in their individuality and physicality” (Dance Magazine), the group explores the cultural roots of Brazil and the gritty life stories of the dancers themselves in their pieces II, You, We . . . All Black! and La Pista. The company is led by choreographer Sonia Destri Lie, and visits the Flynn on their first US tour. With stamina- testing solos and jaw-dropping group movement, Companhia Urbana de Dança is alternately mesmerizing and rippling with adrenaline and raw energy.
