he winners of the Gold Awards at the recent TTA Awards were delighted with their achievements. Dave Rowley, for instance,
who won the Outstanding Contribution to Industry Award says: “I have been involved with The Tile Association as a member of various committees since its formation, so to be recognised with this special award is a real honour. I am extremely proud to be recognised for my work in developing skills and knowledge throughout the tiling industry, as I’m passionate about training, which I believe is vital to the continued success of the industry in general. Maintaining high standards and fixing techniques helps to prevent poor practices and incorrect specifications which can have a negative impact for all in the industry including manufacturers, distributors, specifiers, contractors and fixers. Since joining Building Adhesives in 1992 I have personally trained in the region of 10,000 people. I look forward to continuing my work with Building Adhesives and industry bodies to improve workmanship and standards across the sector and develop the fixers of the future.” Richard Wallis, managing director of Norcros Adhesives (pictured above
right, with Ian Crowther, head of TTA's marketing committee), who won the Excellence in Marketing Award for the launch of its Ultim8 and Ultim8+ products, says: “It was great to win the award and it was a fitting recognition of all the hard work put in by the team over the last 12 months. This year the Awards had the support of eight Gold sponsors, who
benefitted from a high profile in the build-up and at the event itself. They were: Mapei, Shackerley, Fila, Norcros Adhesives, Schluter Systems, Bellota, Lithofin and Tilemaster Adhesives. Mark Ruthven from Bellota says: “This was the first TTA Awards attended by Bellota and it was very successful. We are looking forward to returning next year.”

he Kitchen, Bathroom & Bedroom Specialists Association (Kbsa) report another successful ‘expert live’
at this year’s Grand Designs Live (GDL) at Excel in May. Industry expert, Alan Stanford, acting on behalf of the Kbsa, met with over 80 consumers to review their plans for a new project, and give professional advice to help them progress their project. Visitors also received a free copy of the Kbsa Showcase handbook and Specialist Magazine, which gives full details about the Association, as well as retail members in their areas, along with details of the 110 plus brands that support the Association as Corporate Members. Kitchen designs reflected a desire for a larger ‘family’
living space, with appliances like hot taps and ceiling extraction over an island unit featuring strongly. Furniture styles were largely contemporary, plain and minimalist. Bathroom designs saw more queries relating to lighting and wall coverings; Panels or tiles? More freestanding baths, less fitted furniture, and smaller spaces – mainly being ensuites. Stanford also noted that there were lots of comments regarding the cost of selling a property or building an extension, many getting a builder to quote due to demand! Ruth Ward, Sales & Marketing Director said ‘It’s always a
good opportunity to get this type of feedback from this Show, as it’s a real-time snapshot of current trends in design for both bathrooms and kitchens. It also enables consumers in their research phase to see how the KBSA can help them, and give them details of KBSA retail members in their area to ensure the very best professional execution of their project ’
