Kitchens for Living… E
veryone’s talking about open-plan living space these days and this trend is
centred in the kitchen which has become the focus for cooking, eating, entertaining and living. The open plan ‘living kitchen’ theme presents
a massive sales opportunity to all kitchen stockists as it can encompass an almost endless list of products, as well as the support of design advice and technical know-how from you, the kitchen specialist. By offering a comprehensive choice of kitchen

furniture styles, and as many displays as possible - space permitting obviously - can help to illustrate just how aspirational an open-plan kitchen space could look. The ability for consumers to walk-through and engage with the kitchen should help generate sales. The trick is to create zones that seamlessly blend into each other that depict the many different functions of the space - from preparing food to watching TV, and from dinner parties to the kids’ homework. Kitchen island or peninsula units are very
effective in open-plan layouts and appear on many customer wish lists. Not only are such units a focal point in most kitchens, but they help
divide the space into cooking-dining-living zones, often indicating where the kitchen ends and the socialising areas begin. For this reason, many kitchen specialists, such
as The K Collection, offer versatile furniture options that complement integrated open-plan kitchen living areas, allowing the multi-functional spaces to flow smoothly into one another. Today, open-plan, flexible living is key and
there are endless kitchen furniture solutions out there which when mixed with your creative flair and innovative planning, should certainly help to boost sales.

Seamless design from the K Collection T
he 2015 K Collection features many versatile kitchen furniture and accessory
ranges that have been designed with open- plan living in mind at all times. Furniture transition is key and The K Collection offers plenty of design solutions and inspirational ideas to help you and your customers plan their perfect ‘living kitchen’ space. Elements such as open shelving – ideal for the
‘living’ zone side of the island, worktops at different heights – perhaps incorporating a table or seating area, the mix of different materials to add texture – such as two tone kitchen door arrangements, integrated appliances and sinks, floating kitchen
extractors, breakfast bars and LED lighting systems, are fine examples of open-plan kitchen solutions. The Lazio Lava and Ambleside kitchens pictured
are two contrasting kitchen furniture ranges that show open-plan living at its best in contemporary and classic styles. The high gloss, integrated door – as shown in Lazio Lava (Right), adds to the kitchen’s streamlined look. This door is shown in an earthy grey tone which is ideal for the living zone as complements most decors with its calm and soothing effect. With no protruding handle, the look is clean, simplistic and continuous, creating fluid living space to satisfy modern day open-plan living.
The Ambleside kitchen meanwhile lends itself
enormously to communal open-plan living space and allows for individuality and a bespoke look. This door is shaker-style with a solid ash timber frame and raised centre panel, and is from K’s Painted Collection, available in 32 bespoke painted colour finishes. Mixing doors, as shown here using K’s Midnight Blue and Ivory shades really adds character and helps to differentiate zones.
