Award winning design from Elica L

ighting was initially introduced to cooker hoods as a secondary function though now it

has become an integral part of the design. In 2005 Elica introduced the first lamp-hoods capable of being installed in the middle of a room, above an island, which have since become sought-after items of furniture in their own right. Ten years on and Elica continues to receive plaudits for the beauty of its hood designs as well as the efficiency of their performance. The stylish Diva hood, which has already won

the 2015 iF Design Award, has now also been granted the Red Dot Design Award in the Product Design category for its originality, technology and innovation. The Red Dot Design Award is one of the most

important and well-known international awards for product design, recognising companies pioneering in design at an international level. The award once again confirms Elica’s ability to transform a hood into an object of design, making it the focal point in any kitchen.

Diva serves a dual purpose: extraction and

lighting, thanks to Elica’s Evolution technology, which was first introduced in 2005 and which is now achieving even higher performance levels. Its compact size makes it particularly versatile: it can be used stand-alone or in a pair, wall- mounted or suspended from the ceiling. On the underside of the hood, an extensive series of LEDs are fitted along a single circular disc, to create a diffused and natural light in a limited space; again within this disc, the perimeter extraction system is designed to extract fumes generated even from the sides of the hob. Diva is available in four different finishes

together with the option of three complementary colours for the bottom rim, which surrounds the light. There’s also news on another ground-

breaking Elica design. Ten years after the company launched Om, the world’s first vertical cooker hood, it has paid homage to the beautifully minimalist design of Om’s circle within a square concept with the stunning io

Air. This hood offers more simplistic lighting than its predecessor, however, with LEDs emerging from the bottom of the shape, rather than from a separate unit at the top. The product’s vertical mounting means it provides high performance extraction without protruding into the kitchen, making it ideal for spaces with a sleek aesthetic. Available in six different finishes from white to a vibrant combination of two greens, io Air offers a distinctive perimeter suction system, where the centre ring electronically moves inwards upon activation. The low consumption hood is also highly energy-efficient and benefits from a new high-performance filtering system. io Air also features an attractive touch control system and is fitted with a robust aluminium grease filter.
