Yield, high quality and special differentiated products with added value are the main issues of importance to our customers. This drives them to invest more and more in equipment that improves their operation. Round-the-clock production with no


margin for error and scheduled maintenance demands precise control over all aspects of the process, including static control.


What is needed to achieve a high performance level? - End customers demand static electricity levels below two kV. Goods received with levels over this limit are treated as rejects, therefore creating high rework costs and customer dissatisfaction. - Static electricity levels need be documented as proof to the end customer. - Static control equipment needs to be monitored to prevent production batches with static levels that exceed the end customer specification.


- System parameters need to be logged for backtracking and fault finding. - Efficiency of the static control components need to be monitored to predict maintenance intervals and prevent additional machine stops. - A static control system that is self- supporting and easy to set-up and run.


How can demands be met? Simco-Ion has launched a new system called IQ Easy. It consists of a Manager IQ Easy which is the heart and brains of the system and individual static control components. Each control device, anti-static bars, charging equipment or measuring sensor are set up and controlled by the Manager IQ Easy. Instead of individual components, all static control equipment can be monitored within the one system. This makes

installation and maintenance much easier. One glance at the seven-inch full colour LCD display is sufficient to notice any abnormalities. Additionally, analogue and digital output signals can interface with the machine controls for integration with the master process control. Static electricity control used to be an enigma. Now, a Sensor IQ Easy is needed to reach desired static levels with neutralisation or charging implementation. The Sensor IQ Easy can measure the static charge on the substrate at up to 16 positions per four metres. This logs feedback and information for quality assurance.


Every anti-static bar is most efficient at a fixed distance and material speed. When these conditions are not met due to varying speed and distance, a very low level, for example two kV, will never be reached. Connecting the Sensor IQ Easy, placed downstream, to the anti-static bar Performax IQ Easy provides a feature called Closed Loop Feedback (CLFB). This enables the anti-static bar to regulate its performance to accommodate to the situation and react in closed loop to reach a static charge level as close to zero as possible.

through Ethernet or USB. Documenting all process parameters no longer involves manual labour, minimising the risk of errors. Efficiency indication, ionisation current, actual output voltages and measured static electricity levels provide the information to enable the process to run reliably and to plan maintenance. Various alarm levels can be set to give early indications before static levels reach the stage that would evoke a machine stoppage.


The IQ Easy system is easy to install and maintain. All components use a standardised mounting bracket and a standard M12 cable. The cable includes the 24V DC power supply to the equipment as well as the communication lines. Every possible fault with any component will be indicated, making the system the most reliable static control system available.
