TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION ADVERTORIAL

Precision inertial

MEMS sensors offer ultra-high resolution

the detection of inclination, acceleration and vibration. The capacitive sensors are based on single crystal silicon and utilize the latest micromachining technology. The devices achieve large signal-to-noise ratios and excellent stability over temperature which allows them to detect smallest changes in acceleration or inclination. Due to high aspect ratio microstructures (HARMS) the sensors feature ultra- low cross axis sensitivities. Further, the patented highly flexible AIM (Air gap Insulated Microstructures) technology minimizes parasitic capacitances. Due to the modular semiconductor technology all inertial sensors can be easily and cost-effectively customized to fit individual application requirements. The MEMS capacitive sensing element together with an ASIC for signal conditioning is integrated in a hermetically sealed SMD package ready for assembling on PCB’s. First Sensor’s high precision inclinometers and accelerometers can be used in industry, aviation, building and medical technology.

New photo IC with near human eye response

an energy saving sensor within large screen televisions, for example, and other general types of light level measurement.

H Measuring only 2 x 1.25 mm in total size, the S11154-201CT boasts two active areas formed on the

same chip so that the overall sensitivity is almost only in the visible range, along with reduced colour temperature errors. It also offers excellent linearity over a wide field of view.

The new S11154-201CT has been designed for mass production to offer maximum performance vs.

cost, all whilst retaining the quality and reliability that has come to be expected of a Hamamatsu detector.

Sensirion presents the smallest and most accurate gas and pressure sensors

S

ensirion presents a new multi-pixel gas sensor and a new barometric pressure

sensor. Both new sensors, which rank among the smallest yet most accurate in their class worldwide, are capable of measuring indoor air quality (IAQ), the gases in a person’s breath, and barometric air pressure, as required for indoor navigation applications.

The World's First Multi-Pixel Gas Sensor The new gas sensor is the first in the world to be based on multi-pixel technology. This allows the sensor to perceive its surround- ings using various receptors that, with the help of intelligent algorithms and state-of- the-art pattern recognition, are able to detect the type and concentration of gases. The flexibility that this provides means that now, for the first time, a single sensor is capable of detecting and distinguishing between different gases. Thanks to its very small dimensions of just 2.45 × 2.45 × 0.75 mm, the Sensirion multi-pixel gas sensor can be integrated anywhere. This will enable mobile devices to sense their surroundings in a way that was never possible before, for example in order to measure indoor air quality, determine the alcohol content of a person's breath, or recognize smells.

Ultimate Accuracy from the Smallest Pressure Sensor Together with the gas sensor, Sensirion is also unveiling a new barometric pressure sensor offering unrivaled relative accuracy: it is capable of detecting altitude differences of as little as ±1 Pa, equivalent to the height of a single step on a stairway. With this previously unheard-of degree of precision, the new pressure sensor opens up a new dimension in indoor navigation. This sensor, too, is exceptionally compact, measuring just 1.4 × 1.0 × 0.6 mm, so there are no limits to where it can be used.
