Chinese injection machinery maker Haitian International posted a 5% increase in sales for 2014, up from RMB7.2bn (US$1.16bn) to RMB7.56bn (US$1.22bn). Haitian recorded growth in both its domestic and export markets. Domestic sales were up 1.9% to RMB5.01bn (US$806m) while exports were ahead by 13.1% to RMB 2.33bn (US$375m). The company said the solid financial performance was achieved against a background of Chinese GDP growth slowing to 7.4%, its weakest for more than two decades, and an increasingly

unfavourable rate of exchange with both the Japanese Yen and Euro.

Haitian said it benefited last

year from the introduction of its new smaller Zhafir Venus all-electric and larger Jupiter two-platen machine designs, which together accounted for more than a quarter of total 2014 revenues. It expects the recent introduction of its Zeres all-electric design, which integrates hydraulic core pulling, to further boost all-electric sales. Next month, the company will open its new 150,000m2 factory for production of

all-electric machines at Ningbo in China, which is capable of building up to 250 machines a month. Haitian CEO Prof Helmar

Franz said the new plant more than doubles capacity and incorporates a number of new manufacturing and assembly concepts – including produc- tion line assembly and painting components before machining - that will reduce lead times and further improve quality. “I expect we will improve our efficiency by 30 to 40% measured by quality, time and cost,” he said. ❙ www.haitian.com

Salomon takes PA to new heights

Sporting products maker Salomon has selected DSM’s EcoPaxx bio-based polyamide for the supportive ‘Edging Chassis’ on its latest X Alp range of lightweight mountain footwear. The injection moulded Edging Chassis is built into the sole of the shoe and is intended to provide sufficient stiffness in the transverse direction to maintain good grip on narrow ledges but flexibility in the longitudinal direction to accommodate flexing of the foot. The X Alp light mountaineering footwear is the result of two years of development, according to Aude Derrier, project manager in the materials footwear department at Salomon’s parent Amer Sports. ❙ www.dsmep.com
