❙ Trexel introduced the T-100 dosing and delivery system, which is designed to simplify application of its Mucell microcellular moulding technology on smaller injection moulding machines. The discontinuous dosing system is intended for shot weights of up to 140g and reduces setting to the input of just two values – shot volume and percent foam. Units are available for
nitrogen or CO2 processing.

❙ Novatec was demonstrating the Prophecy Sensorlytics predictive maintenance system, which uses low cost vibration monitoring sensors and Bluetooth wireless technology to allow real-time analysis of plant perfor- mance. The ancillary equipment maker has an exclusive licence for the system, which it is including in all its equipment at no additional cost. “We think this technology will become pervasive over time,” said Novatec president Conrad M Bessemer.

US economy helps Engel and Arburg to new highs
Injection machinery makers Engel and Arburg revealed record sales performances at NPE with both companies enjoying strong demand from the US market. Engel CEO Dr Peter Neumann said sales for the company’s 2014/15 financial year – which ends March 31 – will break the €1bn mark for the first time. “We have seen tremendous growth over the past few years and revenues are nearly double what they were before the global crisis. Nobody expected that,” he said. Strong demand from the US
has contributed to the growth, but Engel has also seen good performances in the suppos- edly weak European market. “The economy in Europe in our business is very different from what you hear from the economic experts. The plastics industry is growing,” Neumann said. “Plastic processors have been doing their homework, they are profitable, and interest rates are low so they invest. It is a unique situation and we hope it continues.” Neumann predicts Engel
will see sales grow by a further

10% at least over the coming year, adding that growth is likely to be limited by capacity rather than market demand. The company’s large machine plant at Shanghai in China is near capacity and its large machine plant at St Valentin in Austria is currently running at 110%.

Arburg also revealed a record 2014 sales performance with revenues hitting €540m and some 13% ahead of 2013 levels. “This was the best year in our company’s history,” said
was not expecting 2015 to bring another record result but said it would certainly be a very good year. “The first three months prove this. The very positive order intake continues and we do not see any reason for this to change,” he said. Arburg exports more than 70% of its production and the US is, at present, its biggest single export market. The company, which has more than 12,000 machines installed in North America, will open a new HQ in Connecticut in the US in the summer. ❙

Conair slows material conveying
Conair demonstrated a new slow speed, high volume resin conveying system that it claims eliminates the dust-generating pellet fracture and system wear of typical systems. The patented R-PRO
system uses mostly standard INJECTION WORLD | April 2015
components. Some special valves are required, but Conair says the cost of this can be offset by the ability to elimi- nate wear-resistant bends and in operating energy savings – smaller vacuum pumps can be used. The company says it
is also possible to convert most existing systems. The Conair system moves
material in compact slugs at speeds of 70-360 m/min compared to the more usual 1,370-1,800 m/min. ❙
