automation session with an overview of the mould manufacturing technologies and design know-how available in the Indian marketplace. Planning for automation in closure design is the
focus of the presentation by Philippe McNally, Manag- ing Director of Canadian closure industry automation specialist MMC Packaging. He will cover some of the key strategies required to ensure that automation maximises part quality and production uptime, including consideration of post-moulding processes at the closure design stage. The moulds and automation session will close with a
discussion of cost effective implementation of collaps- ible core mould technology, which can simplify mould design, increase cavitation, and speed cycles. The presentation will be given by Carlos Saboga, Technical Sales Manager Europe with US-based Roehr Tool. The fi nal session on the fi rst day of the conference
will focus on improving process effi ciency. Arburg Senior Sales Manager Packaging Andreas Reich and Foboha Head of Sales and Marketing Hansjörg Keusgen, both based in Germany, will open the session by looking at the various high output injection moulding options for production of two-material closures. The focus turns to cooling technology for the second presentation in the session, when Fabio Ferrari, Strategic Accounts Director EMEA with Italian cooling systems developer Frigel Firenze, will look at the different process cooling options available to the closure industry and highlight some of the most effective system solutions.
The fi rst day will be brought to a close by John Goff, independent moulding consultant, Injection World magazine Masterclass series author and founder of UK- based process optimisation specialist G&A Moulding Technology (now part of US-based RJG Inc). He will explain successful fast-track strategies for moulders moving from a prototype mould to full scale production.

Spadel will discuss the development of its latest easy open closure design. And Germany-based Kao Group’s Senior Packaging Development Engineer Daniel Nebe and Senior Manager Packaging Development Sebastian Kraus will detail the specifi c closure requirements of the hair care products sector (Kao brands include Goldwell, John Frieda and Molton Brown). France-headquartered Global Closure Systems Vice
President Research & Development Nicholas Thorne takes on the environmental theme, presenting the company’s perspective on following a sustainable approach in caps and closure production and use. And Jorge García, Business Director at the Itene Research Center in Spain, will look at some of the latest renew- able polymer options under development for closure moulding applications. Bernard Vermeesch, Senior Development Engineer at US chemicals company Milliken, opens the material developments session with a discussion of the use of nucleators to manage dimensional variation when processing different coloured poyolefi n materials. And Belgium-based Total’s Technical Service Engineer Rigid Packaging David Ribour will discuss the different additive options available for performance modifi cation of HDPE in cap production. The fi nal session of the conference focuses on quality and regulation. Stefano Severi, Sales Area Manager at Sacmi in Italy, will present the latest technological solutions for 100% 3D inspection of plastic closures. And Stephen Wilkins, CEO of the UK-based Childsafe Packaging Group, will review the fi rst international standard covering ease of opening for the elderly and infi rm – ISO 17480:2015.
