North American market up 15 per cent
The North American machine vision market grew 15 per cent to $2.3 billion in 2014, the highest annual total on record, according to data from the AIA. Total machine vision sales include sales of machine vision systems and components. The machine vision systems category saw growth of 16 per
cent to $2.0 billion in 2014. Within machine vision systems, sales of smart cameras expanded by 28 per cent to $301 million, while application specific machine vision (ASMV) systems increased 14 per cent to $1.7 billion. Similarly, machine vision components had a strong year
with 13 per cent growth to $305 million. The leading product categories for machine vision components in terms of growth were software (19 per cent to $16 million), cameras (17 per cent to $165 million), lighting (16 per cent to $51 million), and optics (14 per cent to $38 million).

Stemmer Imaging has purchased Image House, a supplier of vision solutions and vision components in Denmark. According to Stemmer, combining its machine vision expertise with Image House’s experience with the Danish market will increase its presence and service offering in the country.
