Dynamic focus VZM lenses Edmund Optics has introduced its Dynamic Focus VZM lenses, which use an internal liquid lens to adjust focus over a 7x range, from 0.65x to 4.6x. At the same time, the lens maintains the zoom capabilities of the standard VZM zoom imaging lenses. They are ideal for a range of applications including microscopy and circuit board inspection. The lenses feature a lockable iris, zoom

control and a rotatable mount for optimal camera orientation. The RoHS-compliant lens

measures 248mm in length and provides a 2/3-inch maximum camera sensor format with a working distance of 87mm. The internal liquid lens is controlled via a

rugged six-pin Hirose connector and a USB port. www.edmundoptics.com

S12379 linear CCD Hamamatsu Photonics has introduced a linear CCD image sensor, the S12379; designed for machine vision cameras for chip counters, sorting machines and other applications. The S12379 offers a linear array of

Ultrasonic smart lens Flir Systems has expanded its range of ultrasonic smart lenses (12, 25, 50, 100, 200mm focal length) for its research-grade X6000sc series thermal imaging cameras. Ultrasonic smart lens technology (USL)

is a Flir technology, available for X6000sc cameras, demonstrated to provide exceptional results for low contrast thermal imaging applications where the optimal focus is difficult to find.

USL technology allows the user to

adjust the lens focus remotely. Flir algorithms enhance the speed at which the lenses operate, as well as improving positioning accuracy. A temperature probe is integrated in the USL lens to provide excellent measurement accuracy and drift compensation. This enables fast auto- focusing and improved measurement of the temperature of low contrast targets. www.flir.com

2,048 active pixels in a compact package 36mm long. Each pixel is square, which is required for machine vision. It also offers a high-speed multiport readout of 40MHz per port (four ports) across a spectral range covering 200–1,000nm, peaking at 600nm with a QE of nearly 80 per cent. In addition, the S12379 also includes

an anti-blooming function to prevent charge leaking into adjacent pixels, therefore ensuring accurate, consistent and high-sensitivity imaging. The sensor’s square pixels and

high-speed readout make it ideal for demanding machine vision applications. www.hamamatsu.co.uk
