Pan American Games-Men A multi-sport event featuring teams
from North, South and Central America
and the Caribbean, the Pan American Games are held every four years in the year preceding the Olympic Games. The 2015 Pan Am Games men’s
basketball competition will be held July 21-25 in Toronto, Canada, and training camp to select the 12-member USA team will be held July 6-20. Eight teams will compete in the
2015 Pan Ams, and the United States has been drawn into Group A along with Brazil, Puerto Rico and Venezuela. Group B consists of Argentina, Canada, Dominican Republic and Mexico. Started in 1951 for the men, the Pan
American Games are organized by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO).
Overall, the U.S. has earned eight
gold, three silver and two bronze medals, and compiled an 87-15 record. Thirty-four USA Basketball athletes
who have been part of a USA Pan American Games team have gone on to compete in an Olympic Games, includ- ing Ernie Grunfeld, Grant Hill, Luscious Jackson, Michael Jordan, Christian Laettner, Danny Manning, Chris Mullin, Emeka Okafor, Sam Perkins, Oscar Robertson, David Robinson, Isiah Thomas, Jerry West and Jo Jo White.
Pan American Games- Women
The 2015 Pan Am Games women’s
basketball competition will be held July 16-20 in Toronto, Canada. Trials to select the 12-member team will be held May 14-17 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. USA Basketball’s Junior National Team Committee will invite a select group of players to the trials and to be eligible players must be currently enrolled as a full-time collegiate student with remain- ing eligibility for the 2015-16 school year. Eight teams will make up two
