quarterfinals play. Puro Money fell 21-13 to Ariel in the semis, and Denver easily handled Elite 21-11 to move into the championship game. The Ariel-Denver showdown turned

out to be a thriller. Tied at 19-all, Ariel’s Young sank two free throws to earn his squad a 21-19 win and the championship. “It’s been absolutely amazing, a

dream come true,” Duncan said. “We lost our first game so we didn’t even know if we were going to make the playoffs. We had to win our last game to win the whole thing; it’s unbelievable. They (USA Basketball) ran a fantastic tournament; we’ve played in tourna- ments all over the country but nothing like this, this is something I’ll never forget.”

Moore and Young shared the men’s

Tournament MVP award. “This is a great experience,” Moore

sure to come out here and train and play 3x3 basketball with friends and playing against some really good competition.” “It means a lot to represent my

country,” Young said. “I’ve looked at some of my friends in the past that I grew up with in Chicago, Dwyane Wade, Shawn Marion, Deron Williams, that have represented the United States and have gotten gold medals, and now I have the opportunity to do the same thing. That means the world to me.” On the women’s side, Takeover,

easily disposed of the Tigers 21-10 to earn a spot in the title contest, while FST-Long Island got the better of CS Ballers 21-13 to earn another shot at Takeover. Takeover proved too strong to be

taken down and posted a 21-15 win over 2013 champ FST-Long Island. Takeover’s Lloyd was named the

women’s tournament MVP. “I didn’t do much,” Lloyd said.

“This is all my teammates, and they should get this award, not just me.

“Representing your country and

doing something you love, there’s noth- ing better than this,” Lloyd continued. “We now have to stay true, stay humble and go get the win (in Russia).” “We had played that team (FST-

Long Island) three times over the past few days, so we knew that it was going to be competitive because they had won this tournament last year and they’re very deserving,” Hammond said. The USA Basketball 3x3 National

Championship also included a skills session on June 6 that featured hot shot, which is a partner shooting competition, a 3-point shootout and a skills challenge. The men’s hot shot winners were

Duncan and Darrow of Ariel. Winning the women’s hot shot were Hammond and Burdick of Takeover. The men’s 3-point shootout winner was Moore of Ariel, and the women’s 3-point winner was Mitchell of Takeover. Winning the skills challenge were Brendan Pucket (Denver, Colo.) of Vae Victus and Loyd of Takeover.
