Women’s U17 World Championship Team to a perfect 7-0 record and gold medal at the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship from June 28–July 6 in Pilsen, Czech Republic. “I am humbled and extreme-
ly grateful to share coach of the year honors with coach Showalter,” Phillips said. “He is such a great teacher and motiva- tor. I am thrilled to accept this award, and I would like to thank my assistant coaches Mary Klinger and Brian Robinson, and the entire U17 team, because without their efforts this award would not have been possible. Also, a big thanks to Carol Callan (USA Basketball women’s national team director) and the USA Basketball support staff for making this coaching endeavor an amazing experience.” Showalter steered the 2014
USA Men’s U17 World Championship Team to a perfect 7-0 record at the 2014 FIBA U17 World Championship for Men from Aug. 8-16 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. “This award is special as it involves
many people that helped to make the USA Junior National Team a success,” Showalter said. “My two assistant coach- es - Eric Flannery and L.J. Goolsby - are the best. Sharing this honor with Sue Phillips, who is an outstanding coach, also makes this award very special. Working with USA Basketball personnel, most notably B.J. Johnson (USA Basketball men’s assistant national team director) and, of course, the athletes who bought in to teamwork and playing unselfish basketball was rewarding. I am extremely humbled and honored to receive this award for the sixth time.” The USA Basketball Developmental
Coach of the Year award was established in 1996 to recognize a USA Basketball head coach who, during the year of the award, made significant impact on the success of individual athlete and team performance at the developmental level. Under Phillips, the USA women
