THE SKINNY ON THE LATEST AND GREATEST

52 Hook 14 Length 13 Breakpoint Shape MOTIV: FORZA

Manufacturer’s Intent: “Utilizing completely new technology, the Forza is precisely tuned for a smooth and powerful motion on medium oil,” says Motiv Vice President of Marketing, Scott Hewitt. “It is engineered using the new Torx weight block design and Helix Solid Reactive coverstock.”

Core: The new Torx symmetrical core produces an RG of 2.50 and a differential of .051. We saw 5 inches of flare.

Coverstock: Wrapped up with the new gray Helix solid reactive coverstock, the Forza is fin- ished out of the factory with 3000-grit LSS. The RA value is 10.16 and the effective surface grit is 2450.

Overview: The Forza stood out to us as it was advertised, providing a smooth, strong mid-

lane reaction. This versatile ball made it easy to line up on the USBC Doubles/Singles pattern because we were able to control the shot easily, and it provided good carry power. We noticed the pins stayed low to the deck with its strong mid-lane continuation. On Stone Street, we were able to conquer the pattern because we didn’t see any wet/dry reaction as the ball rolled through the oil well with no overreaction off the friction down the lane. In comparison to the newly released Jackal (October 2014), the Forza was obviously earlier on the USBC Doubles/ Singles pattern, which was easy to see because of the flatter Sport condition. The Jackal gave us a stronger back-end reaction, but these two balls offset each other nicely. The Forza was about two boards right at the arrows from the Jackal on both patterns, but as I noted, it was more noticeable on the Sport shot. We were

able to use this ball on the lighter house pattern because its smooth roll really blended out the friction and never seemed to over-react for us. This is a good benchmark ball to have in your bag for reading the patterns or to keep you out of trouble on those over/under conditions. High-rev players will love this ball in their hands because they rarely see such a smooth back- end motion. Players looking for that strong roll- ing motion will also have the right ball in their hands.
