renowned for his admiration of the New York Rangers professional hockey team as he is for anything the PBA Hall of Famer did on the lanes. It came as no surprise to friends, then, when he dismissed the usual tuxedo in favor of a New York Rangers jersey when he married his wife, Denise, on lanes 15 and 16 at Florida Lanes in Tampa, Fla., a few weeks before Christmas, on Dec. 7. 2003 In honor of one of Roth’s signature

achievements during his Hall of Fame career, the 7-10 split was set up on the lanes behind them as they took their vows. Roth became the first bowler to convert the 7-10 split on national television on Jan. 5 in a match against Bill Straub at the 1980 ARC Alameda Open. “Pink poinsettia plants lined the gutters,


and our rings were wrapped in Christmas wrap with Christmas bows,” Denise recalled. “It’s a great Christmas story.”


Denise grew up in a bowling family in the Syracuse area, and met Mark Roth when the PBA Tour came to town years ago.
