Products Software Spot 5.2 software

Spot Imaging Solutions has released its Spot 5.2 software. The software provides ongoing OS support for Spot cameras while expanding its capabilities with new features and enhanced functionality. New features include: Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9) support; Windows 8 support; auto- brightness; overlay module for E-Phys applications; enhanced auto-exposure image types; enhanced ICC profiles for new cameras; added macro functions; and added custom dialogue functions. Capabilities can be expanded by adding the modular Spot Advanced software, which provides tools for fluorescence imaging and database archival, and supports modules for intensity display scaling, extended depth of focus processing, peripheral device control and live image overlays. www.spotimaging.com/software

IntelliText OCR tool

Microscan has introduced its IntelliText OCR tool with advanced OCR functionality as part of the latest version of its machine vision software, AutoVision 3.0. The OCR tool is designed for reading difficult characters on parts and products in automated identification, tracking, and inspection applications. IntelliText OCR is capable of reading text printed by various methods, including inkjet, drop-on-demand (DOD), direct part marking, and more. The tool’s multi-neural network allows it to train in character variations and store these in a font library for increased OCR speed. Advanced character segmentation in IntelliText OCR allows the software to easily parse characters regardless of uniformity of each character or the precision of the print region. To aid segmentation in difficult reading environments, IntelliText OCR offers image pre-processing, enabling the software to run filters on an image to produce the cleanest image possible for OCR. The software’s image binarisation process

converts the greyscale image taken by the camera to a binary image. With the binary image, the user can see the features recognisable as characters allowing them to set tolerances that determine how much of the image is in view. Therefore, the most difficult text can be adjusted for and read with ease.

With adjustments to image binarisation,

users have the power to tailor the software to anticipate and enhance dark text on dark backgrounds, light text on light backgrounds, text on damaged surfaces, or even text printed on challenging surfaces such as transparent packaging. www.microscan.com

LED lighting with Triniti technology Smart Vision Lights now provides LED lighting solutions enabled with Triniti technology from Gardasoft Vision. Initial Smart Vision Lights products using the Triniti technology include the GRD-S75 brick spot light, the GRD-L300 linear light, the GRD-R80 ring light, and the GRD-R130 ring light. Triniti technology provides expert control, operational intelligence, and full integration of machine vision lighting within a plug-and-play environment. With Triniti technology, machine vision systems with LED lighting are now easier to create, configure, and commission while also increasing functionality. Smart Vision Lights will be offering Triniti-enabled LED lights that will integrate into machine vision networks and connect directly to

Vicolux DLC3005 controller Vision and Control has introduced the Vicolux DLC3005 digital lighting controller. The controller monitors all lighting operating states online, and gives dependable, fault-free operation of the lighting within the defined performance limits.

The controller is housed in a rugged, compact aluminium enclosure measuring 74 x 56 x 21mm. A microprocessor monitors the lighting control function, ensuring stable lighting conditions with up to 95 per cent efficiency. The universal digital inputs and industrial-grade standard connectors are compatible with SPS, NPN, PNP and TTL signals, making the controller easy to integrate. All types of high-performance LED lighting can be operated with the controller in continuous or flash mode. Digital technology guarantees the reproducibility of the lighting settings. Rotary switches on the device are used to adjust the lighting parameters manually. In addition, lighting

parameters can be software defined via the USB port and Web interface.

Besides the two digital inputs, the controller also has two SPS-compatible digital outputs which can be used to poll the operating state and trigger cameras or lag-free switching operations. The Vicolux DLC3005 digital lighting controller has an operating voltage range of 10-30V. Flash times of 20µs to 300ms can be configured with a maximum trigger frequency of 1kHz. www.vision-control.com
