SHOW PREVIEW: PHOTONICS WEST 2015

Snapshot of San Fran

SPIE Photonics West, the laser, photonics and biomedical optics conference, will take place from 7 to 12 February 2015 in San Francisco, USA. Here, we preview some of the imaging equipment that will be on display at the show

Laser Components will exhibit its Flexpoint MVgiga series line lasers, available in blue, red, and the infrared spectral range with an output power of up to 1W. Te blue 450nm wavelength is well suited to inspection in the steel

digital cameras and custom and OEM imaging solutions. www.lumenera.com

industry as it achieves a high contrast and excellent measurement results in red glowing materials. Te 450nm MVgiga’s main applications include measurement tasks in steel mills and steel processing plants. Another advantage of using 450nm

is that the short-wave laser radiation only penetrates organic materials to a minor degree. Tese lasers can also be used in the woodworking and food industries. www.lasercomponents.co.uk

Lumenera will be showing its latest high-performance, USB3 cameras based on Sony’s EXview HAD II CCD Quad Tap sensor technology. Low noise electronics ensure clear and sharp images, rendering details with high accuracy, and Lumenera’s buffer technology ensures frames are delivered at full speed and maximum resolution without introducing latency. Lumenera is a developer and

manufacturer of high performance 30 Imaging and Machine Vision Europe • December 2014/January 2015

Matrix Vision will introduce at the show cameras based on a 2.3 megapixel global shutter CMOS sensor, the IMX174 from Sony. Te cameras are available with dual- Gigabit Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, as well as with USB 3.0 interface. Te sensor has low dark current and noise, combined with extremely high quantum efficiency. Te 1/1.2-inch sensor has a

resolution of 1,936 x 1,214 pixels and reaches a frame rate of 128fps with the dual-GigE model, MvBlueCougar- XD, using the burst mode; 52fps with the GigE family MvBlueCougar-X; and 162fps with the USB 3.0 model mvBlueFox3. Te excellent image quality even in situations with difficult light conditions makes these cameras ideal for challenging applications like traffic surveillance. www.matrix-vision.de

Navitar will show its new MicroMate 3:1 zoom ratio lens system designed specifically for high resolution 4/3- inch sensor cameras. Tis system can capture and process four times more critical data at the camera sensor.

Photron will display its Fastcam Multi, a flexible, multi-head camera system that is tethered to a remote processor. Te small, sealed camera heads and the configuration allow the user to capture images in confined spaces with megapixel resolution at up to 6,000 fps. Current cable lengths are 5m and 10m. Full, high-resolution imaging at 1,280 x 1,024 pixels is offered at 4,800fps, and 720 HD (1,280 x 720 pixels) to 6,000 fps. Other frame rates are available up to 750,000fps. Te camera system is ideal for

Navitar 1X, 2X, 4X and 20X plan apochromat microscope objective lenses are also available. Te company’s full line of

MagniStar bi-telecentic lenses will also be on display. Designed for 2/3-inch and 43.3mm

sensor formats, these lenses have excellent MTF performance, no parallax error and adjustable built-in iris. Magnifications range from 0.05X to 2X. Te new line of Multi-Mag fixed

lenses will be unveiled at the show. Tese are apo and infinity corrected optics designed for imaging with a CCD camera; lateral and axial chromatic aberrations are corrected across the entire field of view. Te lenses include a two and three position objective changer. Te 0.5X, 1X and 2X modular design will cover camera sensors from 11mm to 33mm. www.navitar.com

applications such as off-board automotive safety testing, detonation and explosives testing, and for high- speed image capture in confined, yet demanding environments. It is also ideal for microscopy, life sciences, biomechanics, fluid dynamics, material sciences, and digital image correlation. www.photron.com

Point Grey will be showing live demonstrations of a variety of imaging

cameras ranging from VGA to 12 megapixel resolutions and frame rates up to 162fps. Tese will include the low-cost Chameleon3 camera which combines USB 3.0 ease-of-use with multiple form factor options such as board-level or enclosed metal case. Te Chameleon3 is ideal for microscopy and scientific applications. Te high performance

Grasshopper3 camera line offers high resolution CCD and CMOS sensors including the ICX825, the next generation of the Sony ICX285, featuring 1.4 megapixel EXview HAD CCD II with high-saturation capacity and dynamic range. Additional highlights will include the compact, low-cost Blackfly camera line. www.ptgrey.com
