SATA to start Gatwick flights to Azores in April Portuguese carrier SATA International will resume direct flights from the UK to the Azores on April 4, 2015. Flights will operate on Saturdays until October 17, with afternoon departures from Gatwick to Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel. Return fares start at £338.

Qatar Airways to boost Edinburgh service to Doha to daily from May

Qatar Airways is to increase its Edinburgh-Doha service from five times a week to daily next May. The airline will begin the additional services from May 1, operating the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The aircraft consists of 22 business-class seats and 232 economy- class seats that include individual 10.5-inch television screens. Akbar Al Baker, chief executive of Qatar Airways, said: “We are pleased to offer even further choice and flexibility to passengers wishing to travel to and from Edinburgh. “Offering a daily service to Edinburgh is a clear reflection of the popularity of this route since its launch in May this year and the new daily service will allow Qatar Airways to further support and
promote Scotland’s leisure and business opportunities to different markets on our global network.” The airline said the introduction

of the route had reduced journey times from Edinburgh to Melbourne from about 26 hours with two transfers to 20 hours with one connection at Qatar’s Hamad International airport. The daily flights
from Scotland depart at 14.30, arriving in Doha at 23.30, while the return service departs Doha at 07.45, arriving in Edinburgh at 13.00.
Edinburgh is Qatar Airways’
third destination in the UK; it started flying to London in 1997 and Manchester in 2003. The airline currently operates six flights a day from Heathrow non- stop to Doha, including Business One, its all-business-class A319. It flies from Manchester to Doha 10 times a week.

BMI expands Bristol links to Frankfurt and Munich BMI Regional will add flights from Bristol to Frankfurt and Munich from February 2015. Daily flights to Frankfurt will now depart at 06.40, 11.50 and 16.30, with return flights arriving in Bristol at 10.30, 15.40 and 20.45. The Munich service will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays, departing at 18.55 and returning at 23.55, and depart on Fridays at 17.25, returning at 21.55.

Malaysia Airlines fares on sale until Tuesday Malaysia Airlines has a sale on fares to Malaysia, southeast Asia and Australasia until December 2. Economy sale fares include £549 to Bangkok, £569 to Phuket and £699 to Perth. Business-class sale fares start at £2,649 to Kuala Lumpur, £2,809 to Penang and Kuantan, and £2,989 to Sydney. Delta places $14bn order with Airbus for 50 aircraft Delta Air Lines has placed an $14 billion aircraft order with Airbus. The order includes 25 A350-900s, an all-new model, and 25 updated A330neos. The aircraft will replace Delta’s Boeing 747s and 767-300ERs from 2017. The A350-900 is due to make its commercial debut with Qatar Airways in the coming weeks.
