company,” explains head of operations Keith Howson. “The sales rep that first attended site was professional and knowledgeable and filled me with confidence, the quote arrived very quickly and had all the information that I wanted and most importantly for me, we were not pestered about it.” A team of Klimate engineers attended
site and installed the door quickly and efficiently within the given timescale and left them with a product which was actually better than they anticipated. “The door makes our company overall
look more professional, it will keep a lot of the heat in during the cold winter months which will hopefully help to greatly reduce our heating bills. “An added benefit which we did not
At the start of 2014 Gemini Dispersions decided to improve its working practices. The company’s despatch area had a manual roller shutter door on it with a set of very large, heavy rubber crash door in front to help keep out some of the elements. Unfortunately for the staff that worked in this area these crash doors were not really suitable and in a poor state of repair, consequently the internal
temperature could get to -2˚C or lower. Understandably the heating bill was very high and staff moral affected. The decision was made to install a high speed door to replace the crash doors which would hopefully resolve all of their issues. An Ardent door from Klimate was selected. “Klimate being based in the north west counted massively in their favour but right from the outset I felt good about the
consider is the increased security, being on a public right of way the opportunity was always there for people to run in and pilfer equipment, having this door there now means that without a remote control they cannot enter. We have already decided which opening is next in line to have a high speed door fitted and hope to place an order before Christmas”.

Enter 312 SOLUTION COMPLETES LOOP FOR RETURNABLE PACKAGING
Thorworld Industries has installed three fixed loading bay solutions each comprising a ramp, platform and dock leveller to give returnable transit packaging (RTP) specialist PPS Midlands an efficient logistics operation at its new premises near Uttoxeter. With its business growing 25% year-
on-year PPS has relocated to the new 75,000 sq ft facility in order to service existing and future customers who use PPS for the management, rental, pooling and repairs of all types of RTP. With the RTP concept relying on a rapid cycle of returning the packaging to PPS for washing before redistribution into the supply chain it was essential that the company established a safe, fast and efficient system of unloading and unloading. As the Marchington site already incorporated three doors for loading, PPS had to find the most cost- effective and user-friendly system to convert these to ‘dock level.’ Having previously worked with Thorworld, PPS operations director Andy Flynn asked the company to devise a suitable solution. Thorworld proposed a bespoke system for each doorway, comprising a ramp,

platform, electro hydraulic dock leveller, roller shutter door and dock shelters. In contrast to conventional dedicated
loading bays, each set-up is simply bolted into space – eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming civil works – and can easily be moved to an alternative location if required in future. Given that PPS’ warehouse operation uses powered pallet trucks for loading/ unloading, Thorworld advocated the use of its Deluxe Type 6 Access Ramp with a
modified solid treadplate decking for improved access. For safety in the prevailing environment at the plant the Thorworld solution included anti-slip surfaces to optimise traction, access steps and side platforms which provide protected access to operate the leveller and collapsible dock shelters to minimise weather ingress. “Combining a leveller, platform and
ramp into one system ensures that we can load and unload our RTP pallets quickly on to and off the platform without immediately needing to transport pallets off-ramp,” comments Flynn. “At the same time the semi-permanent nature of the Thorworld solutions gives us greater flexibility and manoeuvrability in the future should we need to reconfigure our warehouse operation. Thorworld has been excellent throughout the process, from design to installation and the loading systems were finished on time and on budget to support our smooth transition into the new facility.”
