the New Flex Giraffe

was astonished that the TV commentators had a booth so small and with such a limited view that an ordinary spectator might have had a better idea of what was going on. Fortunately the commentators have the benefit of other communications and a TV so can keep track of events. Perhaps the most

The new Giraffe models are very similarly priced to the old ones and combined

with the database of customers built up over the years as well as a new marketing and publicity campaign, the aim is to ensure that the new Giraffe captures even more market share. The new Giraffe should really be combined with the excellent dust extraction

vacuum machines that Flex offer. Flex has put together a deal for clients who buy a new Giraffe and a vacuum extractor together that will not only save a bit of money, but ensure that the paired machines work well together. I had a very short time to

use the new Giraffe on a mock-up drylined wall, and it was just enough to make my hands itch to get hold of a test Giraffe – perhaps in a future issue of ToolBusiness and Hire? Some other new

products were also on display at the new Giraffe launch – ones that would appeal to the users of the Giraffe and similar trades. There were a couple of laser levels and a laser distance measure and there are plans for a wider range of other new related power tools for next year. Watch this space! As the inventor of the

much used and abused angle grinder, Flex also has plans for

some more of these too – again more of that next year. As ever, new and old users of the Giraffe can find a lot more info on

www.newgiraffe.com to find out stockists, tech specs etc. Flex is a fine host and had deliberately chosen Silverstone as a product launch

venue to give us a good time too. We had an excellent guided tour around the Wing at Silverstone – home to the world’s media during Grand Prix weekend. I

boggling room was the Race Control where a vast wall of TV screens monitors the whole track in detail. Instant communications means that marshals and officials on the track deal with incidents quickly and safely.

We all had our photos

taken on the Podium – no I didn’t feel like an F1 winner, but I did think that Flex had chosen a perfect way to bring us all together for the next activity – the Pitstop Challenge. It took us a walk down the

length of the pits to reach the large garage where three Formula Fords were waiting. All we had to do was compete in our three teams to change over a pair of front wheels in the quickest time. As it turns out this is not as easy as it looks, nor does it take only three seconds like the Formula One boys do. My team lost, but it was great fun and the big

prize of a Formula One Experience went to someone else, alas. The funs didn’t

end there because no sooner had we finished in the garage than we were whisked off to the Silverstone Helipad where a tiny four- seater helicopter was waiting to take us for a brief jaunt and aerial view of Silverstone. It was a first for me- I have never been in a helicopter, but it was a great experience and amazing to see the aerial view of the whole circuit – much bigger than you think. I shall leave the last word to Stuart who modestly says that he is “not very good at doing this type of thing but I would like to just get across what a success it was and how nice the people who attended the event were and how much they enjoyed the day.” Stuart, you are too

modest, it was a great day and we had a great time. Can’t wait to get my hands on a Giraffe.
