Workwear

The Summer months have passed and the cold has crept in meaning it’s time to review your workwear. It’s vital that your clothing not only protects you but is also comfortable, warm and durable. High visibility clothing is essential for workers up and down the country

who provide vital services in harsh conditions and dangerous environments. The importance of this type of clothing cannot be overstated: it protects hard-working people on a daily basis. It’s extremely important as the dark nights draw in and lighting turns poor. High-vis clothing should be certified to EN standard EN471, a legal requirement that ensures the garments protect the wearer from dangers to life or permanent injury. The Blåkläder range is certified and includes trousers, jackets and weather protective articles, all of which are comfortable and of the highest quality. When working hard it’s important to keep warm and dry whilst still

being efficient and layering up is a great way of doing this. On your first layer you should have a good undergarment to help absorb moisture and wick it away. This will help to regulate the body’s temperature. The next layer is insulation; as the temperature drops this layer helps to maintain your body heat through the use of a flannel shirt or fleece garment. The final layer is protection. This is the shield that protects you from cold, rain and wind. Look for outerwear with hidden cuffs, snow locks over zips, fleece lining and a zip all the way up to the collar. A waterproof jacket is absolutely invaluable in wet and cold weather, it will enable you to work outside for longer in harsh conditions and by keeping dry you will also keep warm. For extra warmth winter overalls are also available. They provide head to toe wind and waterproof protection with a quilt lining and as it is an all in one garment it is more effective at keeping out the cold. If your

feet become cold and wet

you’ll freeze no matter what you have on the rest of your body. A good tip is to have at least two pairs of work shoes/boots so that you always have one clean and dry pair ready for when you need to go out to work. Rubber boots are great for wet weather due to their thick water resistant nature and can also be great for snow and ice if you choose a pair with a good sole for maximum grip. Don’t forget to invest in a good pair of gloves and a warm hat and you

should be ready to go! A good winter workwear wardrobe should be high on your list of

priorities as an industry professional. It’s important to ensure all clothing is great quality, durable, comfortable and protective. Leading Swedish workwear manufacturer Blåkläder has a well-earned reputation for making some of the industries most robust, hard-wearing and practical workwear and can help ensure you’re protected the best you can be.
