solutions that appear to offer lots of options, but when we use them we find that actually it is easier to just collect the tools in the bottom of the bag because it is too time consuming to replace them in their designated places. C.K designers have tried to avoid this issue by ensuring that the storage pockets operate vertically – in other words the tools are placed into pockets or pouches from the top. Since the rucksack is meant to be placed on its base and opened from the top, this makes complete sense. There are fifteen open pockets and four pouches with flaps sealed with hook and loop closures in the main compartment of the rucksack. There is also some significant space inside on the hard base for more bulky tools – perhaps a small drill driver and spare battery? In total, there are 39 pockets and holders, so there should be plenty of storage options for organising your tools.
The A4 size outer storage compartment is flat and padded and would easily
hold a small diagnostic laptop/iPad securely. A zipped compartment within can hold job cards, instructions etc. so that they remain uncrumpled and readable. An elasticated band could hold some small tools like screwdrivers vertically and there a couple of elasticated penholders too. On one side of the rucksack there is a handy mobile phone-sized pocket and on the other there is a transparent window – maybe for an ID card/pass. Where the C.K Magma Technicians Rucksack Plus scores heavily in my view, is
that the designers have chosen to make a rucksack that can be carried easily. Tools are heavy to transport so there is no point in having a rucksack that hurts your back when you carry it. Looking at the carry straps, it is clear that comfort was a priority in the designing. The backstraps are contoured, padded, mesh backed and reinforced for strength and wouldn’t be out of place on a mountaineer’s rucksack. They are also adjustable for size and positioning on your back. The actual back of the rucksack has lozenge-shaped pads that are faced with
comfortable heat-dissipating mesh to ensure that carrying the pack will not trouble your back. The single top carry handle is not merely a strip of nylon webbing, it has a ribbed, round and rubberised cover that makes carrying a heavy bag relatively easy and won’t cut into your hand. Like most tools, I am
sure that most C.K Magma Technician’s Rucksack Plus users will happily reorganise and customise their rucksack to suit their needs. Already, I have seen the benefit in having my smaller tools stored in the rucksack and bigger ones in my wheelie-bag. Try one, I am willing to bet that you will like it.
