legacy thinking, retail is generally seen as a ‘job,’ not a career as many people have worked in retail as a first job, Saturday job or interim job. “Subsequently, because the industry has that image, there are probably many women with IT skills that would not necessarily think about bringing them into retail. And yet the whole omnichannel trend and diversity of retail today means that it’s a fantastic place to go and have a really dynamic IT career. “But we need more role models. The


industry needs more women who are working in IT to show they are having great careers there. And that if you are interested in having an IT career you

don’t have to take it to an IT company. You can be taking it to the retail industry.” The fifth installation of these awards welcome entries from women in technology who are entrepreneurs or working within organisations. A couple of new categories are


available this year, such as ‘The One to Watch’ and ‘International Leader of the Year’ and all entries are free. Entries are open from 2 September until 3 November 2014. The 2014 FDM

everywoman in Technology Awards ceremony will take place at a dinner on 17 March 2015 at the London Hilton on Park Lane, preceded by an all-day conference where key figureheads in business will debate the issues affecting women in technology. “Previous winners have shared with


us the impact their award win has had on their business and their careers with many being promoted on the back of the recognition it has brought,” added Benson. “The awards have grown exponentially since we launched them five years ago and have uncovered dozens of role models that will inspire future female tech stars to follow in their footsteps.” “It’s a big event, we’ll have 600


people there this year,” she concluded. “It’s a wonderful celebration of women achieving success in technology. I would love to see retail technologists celebrated there.”
