ACCESS BRIEFING

“As Summit goes to press, a number of restrictions have already been amended in Pembroke. Remember to check the BMC Regional Access Database and information boards at the main car parks for the latest info.”

Elfyn Jones, BMC Access & Conservation Offi cer (Wales) NORTH WALES: St Tudno’s Lower Buttress

Due to nesting choughs, a seasonal restriction is in place; check on-site signs. NORTH WALES: Upper Pen Trwyn

A reminder that climbing is not allowed above the Marine Drive before 6pm during the school summer holidays (15 July - 8 September). Access to Parisella’s cave and Mumbo-Jumbo caves is not affected.

WEST WALES: Lochtyn, Cardigan Coast

Negotiations are underway with the National Trust regarding the placement of belay stakes and possible seasonal restrictions at this newly developed sea-cliff (interim guide available on the Climbers’ Club website).

PEMBROKE: Range West

The next briefi ng is on Saturday 26 July: 9am at Castlemartin army camp. PEAK DISTRICT: Ravensdale

Following a trial in collaboration with Natural England to establish how close climbers could get to the raven nest before disturbance occurred, a considerably smaller restriction

has been imposed than was originally proposed. Two young ravens fl edged in May, demonstrating that the approach worked well. This was the fi rst trial of this type, and we hope to use a similar approach in the future.

PEAK DISTRICT: Aldery Cliff

Due to slippery ground, a couple of wire handrails have recently been installed along the top of the crag and descent to help climbers down and avoid further damage to the stock fence.

“Got an iPhone or Android phone? Download our new RAD app. Don’t rely on your guidebook – it’s probably out of date!”
