he winner of this year’s George Band Award for Exceptional Voluntary Contribution to Mountaineering is John Innerdale MBE. The award recognises John’s services and contribution to mountaineering heritage and the Mountain Heritage Trust. The award was presented to John at the BMC AGM in April by Susan Band (George Band’s wife) and BMC President Scott Titt. The George Band Award was established by the BMC in 2010 to recognise people who have played a signifi cant role in the BMC’s work over an extended period of time.

Slate bolt warning


traditional upland footpath techniques. The BMC’s Access & Conservation Trust is encouraging BMC members to support the Roaches Footpath Appeal.


Climbers are warned about potential bolt failures in the slate quarries of North Wales. The BMC advise


climbers to use caution with any loose expansion bolts used for protection and in particular for lower offs on popular routes. Resin bolts are not affected.
