Dear TSCRA member:
Expansion of the cattle herd in Texas and Oklahoma is a hot topic right now. Market conditions favor expansion, but there are many potential obstacles to continued growth of the cattle herd.
At the Cattle Raisers Convention in April, the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) Marketing Committee discussed conducting a con- fi dential survey of TSCRA members regarding future herd rebuilding intentions. We are attempting to answer several questions: What is the “new normal” herd size in Texas and Oklahoma? Even with rain, will ranchers fully restock to levels from 5 or even 10 or 20 years ago?
The answers to these questions will have an impact on TSCRA’s ability to serve members. Based on members’ rebuilding intentions, what steps should TSCRA be taking today to ensure high levels of service to members? How will rebuild- ing affect membership revenues that support TSCRA services and programs?
The Marketing Committee and meeting attendees unanimously supported this confi dential survey. We are asking you to take 5 minutes to fi ll out the survey on the facing page.

The responses you provide will be confi dential and you will notice there is no identifi er on the survey. Once you complete the survey, please tear out the sheet, fold over the sections and tape it closed. The mailer is postage-paid so you can simply drop the survey in the mail.
The committee will share the aggregate results of the survey with TSCRA members. Our hope is the responses will help answer some diffi cult questions and assist TSCRA leaders in guiding the organization in the future.
Sincerely, Austin Brown III
