SUPPLEMENT FEATURE CABLING & CABLE MANAGEMENT Making cable management better
Crabtree offer designers and specifiers a range of electrical accessories that cater for an array of applications in commerce, industry, education, health and leisure facilities - in fact wherever quality electrical products are required
lengths or corners together, perfect alignment is easily and quickly achieved by using the dowel pins supplied. However, perhaps most importantly, there is only one flat angle or T piece to purchase and install rather than several different options for up and down, thus reducing the number of parts required to be taken on-site and further simplifying the installation. However, there are many jobs that do require a greater cable carrying capacity, as modern power and IT requirements grow. Hence Crabtree MAXPAK was also developed to offer the deepest trunking in its class. With a depth of 65mm, MAXPAK enables better handling of power and data cables.
C
rabtree has introduced two brand new complementary product ranges
to add to its electrical portfolio. The company’s research has discovered what is needed in the market and, as a consequence, Crabtree has launched two new products - both aesthetically pleasing cable management solutions, and both entirely designed, developed and manufactured in the UK and Europe. Their design makes specifying and installation easier, helping contractors meet tight deadlines. The new products are a compact
range of PVC trunking and accessories called COMPAK, together with a high cabling capacity range called MAXPAK, that both meet the requirements for Cat 5E, 6, 6A and 7 cables. With a clean unobtrusive style that helps them blend in to their surroundings and an open access design, they provide full cable support during cabling for both top and bottom compartments.
WHAT’S DIFFERENT? To facilitate installation, both variants come with flexible internal and

external corners to provide for the everyday reality that walls are not always 90º true. This new trunking is designed to accommodate a variance of +5º or -5º from true, making achieving a clean, snug fit at the corners much more simple. At the same time, to ensure that data transmission of the installed cabling is never compromised, these corners offer ribbed internal supports ensuring all cables are smoothly guided when fitting to prevent kinking and twisting and thus maximising data transmission performance and additionally presenting no cable capacity reduction at all. In fact overall, COMPAK provides 30% more cabling capacity than similarly sized data trunking systems, giving better flexibility to the specifier and installer, often removing the need to use larger, bulkier or more expensive systems, and hence providing a neater and subtler solution. COMPAK’s injection moulded flat

GREATER EFFICIENCY The nature of asymmetrical trunking profiles implies a prefabricated solution for some fittings such as flat angles and T pieces - up as well as down. This situation increases the number of parts required to complete installations. Most manufacturers offer accessories produced by joining sections of the same trunking cut at 45º. This solution is labour intensive and detracts from the aesthetics of the final installation. With Crabtree MAXPAK’s modular system however, the configuration of the six most common solutions is achieved with the minimum number of components, all manufactured in polymer material with Fire Retardant properties. Fast and easy access is provided from
MAXPAK’s open design. This means that there are large accessible compartments at both the top and the bottom of the trunking, with no lids or other components in the way. Cables can therefore be quickly installed on the permanent supports from below without the risk of kinking or bending. This makes for a much faster, safer and more reliable installation. Crabtree’s COMPAK and MAXPAK have
been developed in accordance with the requirements of BS EN 50085/ BS 6701 & BS EN 50174 and fully meet the requirements for Cat 5E, 6, 6A and 7 cables. The trunking is also available, made to order if required, with BioCote anti-microbial treatment making it well suited for environments where hygiene is paramount.
