Raychem HWAT heat trace system R
Webinar programme
of DAQ updates continues through June
H
BM’s series of free on-line webinars continue throughout June to complement the company’s series of live technical seminars and workshops being held in the Midlands. HBM On Tour 2014 represents a wonderful opportunity for engineers to deepen their knowledge of new measurement technologies and quickly learn how to use modern systems effectively and safely. HBM’s team of highly trained facilitators will conduct the workshops and seminars and further information can be found on HBM’s web site. HBM will be hosting an event, “Shopping at the Supermarket”, on Thursday, 26th June, at the Williams Conference Centre that looks at the need for highly accurate and dependable weighing technology throughout the food industry. This event covers the use of effective weighing solutions utilised at every stage of food production – from determining the amount of grain in silos through to ensuring the exact quantity of wine in a bottle.

aychem HWAT self-regulating electric heat trace cable from Pentair Thermal Management, meets all the recommendations in the new CIBSE ‘Guide G Public health and plumbing engineering’. The guide recommends that secondary circulation (or trace heating) should be provided when the length of hot water pipework and the volume of the water that the pipework contains become such that it would take an unreasonable length of time to draw off the cool water. Raychem HWAT is the safe way to supply instant hot water from
centralised production in modern building design. Single pipe direct hot water service incorporating smart self-regulating heating cable technology provides a proven, creative, and precise method of delivering constant hot water temperature throughout an entire network, without the need for recirculation.

Homelift installer integrates Aico RadioLINK smoke alarms
W
essex Lifts is installing Aico mains powered smoke alarms with RadioLINK wireless interconnection technology to work with its
domestic lift, VM Homelift, to meet The British Standard BS 5900:2012. BS 5900:2012 covers the behaviour of homelifts in the event of fire and requires the lift to be connected to a smoke alarm system. Wessex Lifts, which has been manufacturing, installing and maintaining home lifts for over 35 years, has specified Aico's 160RC series mains powered alarm for its VM Homelift. The alarms are fitted on Aico's RadioLINK bases for wireless alarm interconnection. These communicate with the lifts' controls via Aico's Ei413 RadioLINK Panel Interface Modules. The lift circuitry has been modified by Wessex Lifts, so if the smoke alarms are initiated the lift will disengage if already parked or immediately after the journey has been made if the lift is already in use, in line with BS 5900:2012. In addition, the lift's direction can be changed to avoid the source of the fire.

Sensors for Continuous Level Sensing S
ICK has launched the UP56 Pure ultrasonic level sensor with polypropylene housing to provide accurate and continuous non-contact level sensing in vessels that contain aggressive fluids such as those used in electronics and photovoltaic manufacturing. “The UP56 Pure uses a time-of-flight
ultrasonic pulse for continuous level measurement from top to bottom of the vessel, achieving greater control than the conventional point level capacitance sensors typically used to detect top, middle
and bottom points,”
Darren Pratt, Product Manager for UK’s Industrial Instrumentation Division.
explains Sick
is no need for an external by-pass tube on tanks, saving cost and eliminating the possibility of accidental escapes or leaks.
“The new SICK UP56 Pure range is mounted inside the chemical tank in an immersion tube. A mini version is also available with a very short body enabling
There
installation in confined spaces” “As well as enabling sophisticated alarm monitoring, when tank levels are nearing critical filling
levels, continuous level measurement can provide an indication of process line performance, such as pump and filling efficiency and mix dosing.” The SICK UP56 Pure and Pure Mini variants are contained within an IP67 housing and have all wetted parts coated with PTFE or manufactured from polypropylene to deliver long life and reliability in challenging corrosive environments. The SICK UP56 is available in three measuring ranges, 30 – 500mm, 85-1500mm and 65 – 1500mm when used in with an immersion tube, providing excellent application versatility for different sizes of tank and process requirements. The SICK UP56 mounting incorporates a high security GF (George Fischer) mount. The UP56 features excellent pressure resistance (0-6 bar Pure and 0-2 bar Pure Mini) enabling use in pressurised systems. The sensor will withstand process temperatures up to 80oC. The SICK UP56 offers pre-calibrated plug-and-play level sensing but can also be re-configured using the same PC-programming tool used with other SICK ultrasonic sensors.

High power stud terminals C
onta Clip has now extended their range of stud terminals to include 35mm & 70mm connections. These compact studs are available with M6, M8,
M10, M12 & M16 studs that are rated at 1000V. The conductors are held securely with the aid of a safety/spring washer fixed to the nut to making for a maintenance free installation and no lost washers. The new style hinged covers are available in
yellow, blue or beige to help terminal identification. The cover is easy to mount; it simply snaps into the side walls of the stud terminal as it is closed. In this quick and reliable way, a touch-safe protection of all the terminal points is always guaranteed.
• Rated at 125A to 520A • TS35 or direct mount • 2 and 3 pole cross connects • Lug or busbar direct connection • V0 (UL94) flammability rating
