Making a difference

Samantha Sweet, Co-Founder and Head of Marketing and Communications at Sweet Squared LLP chats to us about her career highlights and personal passions.

 I ended up in the industry because… I blamemyMum, Gigi Rouse, for starting my nail industry career. She ropedme into working as her receptionist in her salon, Designer Nails, after I had returned after four years in Florida and the rest as they say is history!

 The best thing aboutmy job is... Getting to talk to, help and inspire others. Listening to thewants, needs and ideas of our customers is probably the single most important thing I can do for them, for Sweet Squared and for the brandswe represent. Our job is to help our customers become as successful as possible. If you don’t talk to them, how do you knowyou are doing anything right? I ama total people person and love this part ofmy job.

 A typical day forme…Starts at 7am and the first thing I do is grab the iPad and checkmy emails. I’mgenerally in the office for our daily huddle at 10:30am where all ourmanagers get together, bringing each other up to speed on what’s hot in our areas. It’s then down to answering emails, writing press releases, going through impending ads, Social Media updating, mentor phone calls, talking to customers and spending time with customers in the Sweet Shop. Communication is key and no day is ever the same.

 I’matmy happiestwhen…I feel I am making a difference to customers with information that can truly help them. I’ve had some wonderful ‘thank yous’ from

people that say I have really helped them and thatmakesme very grateful and happy. Secondly, I amhappiest when I’m withmy husband Sam– whether it’s business or pleasure we always have fun and hemakesme laugh! Somemay think it’s corny but our relationship is very important to what we do and I love that we get to do it together every day.

 Inmy spare time I enjoy…Cooking and entertaining at home. I love having family and friends over and I really enjoy setting a beautiful table and feeding people. We also go to themovies a lot and I love Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream Sundays!

 Itwould be quite cool being…Anna Wintour for the day wouldn’t it? She is the complete antithesis ofme so it would be fun to letmy wicked side out!

 I could not livewithout…CND Shellac. I love howshiny it stays and how easy it removes. My favourite shades are classic creams – Rubble, Bare Chemise andWildfire, although I can’twait for Bicycle Yellowand ElectricOrange for Summer!

 Iwould like to be remembered as… I would hope that those who havemet me would rememberme as someone who was thoughtful and kind; as someone who has empathy and was hopefully able tomake a difference to themin a positive way. I have always tried to do the right thing and I amby no means perfect but I thinkmy heart is in the right place! Many good things have happened tome and I believe you attract that by your actions and attitude to others.
