Q: Do I need a pedicure qualification just to apply gel to the toenails?

Nataliya Al-Ta’ai: “Absolutely, you need to have the knowledge of how to professionally care for toes and feet, be familiar with disorders and diseases to avoid cross infection and contamination, and provide a professional healthy service to your clients.”

Audrey Heffernan: “Yes. You would need to know about contraindications and contra actions of the feet before applying the gel to the feet. You don’t know these unless you are qualified in pedicure.”

Sinéad Ellison-Mydat: “No, although at Bio Sculpture we do run a course for Spa Pedicure showing our clients how to use Spa products for a complete luxury pedicure but the main gel application is the same.”

Cliona Sweeney Gelish Educator for Creative Academy @CreativeAcademe

Cliona Sweeney: “As long as you have a gel certificate you would be covered to do toes. However, it may be an added benefit that you do a pedicure course so that you can offer your clients an added service.”

Tara Collier: “No, a gel polish can be applied to toenails without completing a pedicure.”
