Welcome to this issue of Inside DSEI, the first of four to be published in the run-up to DSEI 2015, which takes place at ExCeL London from September 15-18.
SEI 2013, which was staged from September 10-13 at the ExCeL London exhibition centre, saw the largest gathering of exhibitors and visitors representing a record number of countries. The purpose of the technologies, systems, products and services that filled the exhibition halls is, of course, to help responsible countries safeguard their citizens and protect their national interests.
New threats often demand new capabilities to meet and defeat them. As a result, each edition of DSEI has provided a platform for diverse important new developments as well as established solutions. While this is obviously a positive factor, it places on us as the event organisers a responsibility to ensure that visitors can make the best possible use of their time at DSEI and exhibitors achieve maximum exposure for their products.
We are meeting this challenge through focused feature areas, with air, land, maritime and security as over-arching categories while important specialist disciplines also have their own dedicated zones. Proving the success of this formula, the unmanned systems zone has become one of the most popular features of DSEI.
Innovation knows no borders and another core plank of our strategy is to continue to bring suppliers from around the world to DSEI. The 2013 event hosted 40 national pavilions as the international profile of the show’s exhibitor base continues to grow.
DSEI’s powerful international reputation attracts visits by senior figures in the defence and security spheres - military, political and industrial. We are extending our global programme of engagement with VIPs in mature and emerging markets to ensure this pattern continues.
The scene is already being set for another highly successful DSEI and I look forward to telling you more about the exciting developments we have planned in the months ahead.
