A Global Outlook by Rear Admiral Simon Williams

of the market. Clarion Defence and Security organise and manage a global portfolio of defence exhibitions and conferences in order to provide a range of geometries in which business to business, business to customer and the all important exchange of new ideas can occur.

DSEI is the flagship event, but we recognise that in just four days every two years relationships cannot be sustained, ideas exchanged and communities of interest completely represented. Providing continuity of engagement is one of our key objectives and this is a global endeavour. Our major South American event LAAD and its correspondent LAAD (Security) is complemented by our growing North American portfolio headlined by our management of the US Navy League’s annual Sea-Air-Space.

Closer to home in Europe our partnership with the AOC has brought EW Europe into the fold, to join our Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) offering for the air environment. In the security field the annual Counter Terror E xpo (CTX) provides a key bridge between the defence and security audiences. In recent years CTX has been joined by the co-located Forensics Europe Expo and Ambition event for the ambulance sector. In the maritime domain Underwater Defence Technology (UDT) celebrates its 25th year this

year, and forms a key component of the International Festival for Business in Liverpool. And with a similarly long pedigree the International Training and Education Conference (ITEC) provides a vital meeting ground for those engaged in military education and training. We are delighted that the next edition of our medical event Trauma Innovation will be co-located with the Institute of Remote Health Care’s annual conference as part of a new dedicated trauma and remote healthcare event: Austere Medical Environments.

The significant change is the growth of defence industries in developing nations

In a number of arenas such as future land and future naval strategy, medical innovation, and unmanned systems we seek to rationalise the busy calendars of industry executives and military professionals by conjoining them with DSEI on a biennial

basis, without detracting from the primary purpose of DSEI.

This international portfolio provides us as a defence based exhibition company with vital feedback on the direction of the market, and critical reach across the defence and security audience from academia, to technologists, to manufacturers and ultimately to the end user. It is an approach that reflects the interests and needs of these audiences and allows ideas to flow. That flow of ideas refreshes and invigorates our offerings, and DSEI 2015 will reflect this in its innovation and focus on the needs of industry and the defence customer alike.
